It sounds like poor safety times two. Whoever put the guns away never ghecked them and the guy killed failed to check/clear the weapons prior to handling. Sad this had to happen but there is a reason for gun safety rules.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

This is definitely a staunch reminder to the rest of us about gun safety.

Sad day for everyone involved....

An entirely avoidable accident.

Count off the number of safety rule violations....

1. Treat Every gun as if it were loaded.

2. Point all guns in a safe direction.

3. Do no store loaded guns.

4. Check every fire arm action every time it is handled to be certain it is empty...

Best wishes to the family in this terrible time, a real shame. I hope we all learn something here.

1. Treat Every gun as if it were loaded.

2. Point all guns in a safe direction.

3. Do no store loaded guns.

4. Check every fire arm action every time it is handled to be certain it is empty...

1 and 2 I abide by, but not 3 and 4. Follow 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 take care of themselves. Just saying..

"The terrible irony is that Russ was one of the safest people on this range," Bonifacic said.

Obviously not.

This is sill a tragedy though, and is terrible for the family.

1. Every gun is always loaded

2. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire

3. Never point at anything that you don't intend to destroy

4. Always be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Practicing and Memorizing the simple 4 Steps is the best and safest way to go.

Don't UZIs fire from an open bolt? Could this have been a suicide? I don't know (I'm not running the poor guy down), it just sounds strange.
