Well, went to the range today. Was going to shoot my p22, 10/22 and 15/22 with the mite. Got to shoot only the p22. After about 30 rnds my shots did not hit paper. I think I shot 2 more and I was like wtf. Then I cleared and looked at the can, and this is what I saw. Contacting YHM tomorrow.

No, it was not loose.

Was the mono-core tight as well?

What ammo were you shooting?

What kind of adapter were you using?

If the tube isn't damaged, which is doesn't look like it is, you should just be able to replace the baffle core. No big deal, you are back in the game.

But I would want to find out what caused the strike/strikes in the first place.

I can only think of a couple things that would cause this. Unfortunately, none of them would be YHM's fault. Most likely either a barrel or ammo problem.

Well obviously it wasn’t aligned with the barrel. So either it wasn’t machined straight to the barrel threads (or vice versa) or it came loose.

For those of you that think it was the ammo… why? It appears a round hit the first baffle. I wouldn’t think a round could tumble in the first couple of inches?? Some gun manufacturers list specific rounds that you can’t use; did they do that with this?

Walther specifically says on use high velocity ammo (i.e. CCI Mini Mag). There have been reports of subsonics damaging cans from P22's.

The Aguila SSS is notorious for this behaviour. Other ammo has also shown a propensity to tumble from certain firearms. If you have lead build-up in the rifling or anywhere near the muzzle, that could have caused it.

The bullet doesn't have to go into full tumble mode to strike a baffle. All it has to do is yaw slightly. Then if it does make contact with a baffle it's not going to go straight.

That's why I asked about the ammo. Of course that is just one possibility but in order to find out what happened we must cover all bases.

Called YHM. Told me to send can with barrel to them.... Fed-ex'ing it today.

Is it possible you had a squib that stopped in the barrel? Possibly you didn't notice because all the other round were quiet as well. Then the next round could have pushed the squib or struck the squib, forcing it into the first baffle. It would have to be a serious problem for a baffle strike on the first baffle. Most strikes are further down the can.

Update:

Well after about 2 1/2 weeks I called YHM for a status. I had sent in my p22 and the can. They said they checked it all and all was okay. However, the actual threads on the mite was slightly off, so much so that it constituted in them replacing it free of charge. They said that I will get a new Mite and paper work will be sent to me today.

That is all.
