I am confused, what do you mean by, "not to be static with my personal possessions".

I mean not to be dependent on my home as a storage facility for amassed "stuff" I went through a MASSIVE consolidation/liquidation this past year. I sold off about 80% of my collection and reinvested that money into higher quality things. Now, I can grab three gun cases and be gone. I don't keep a lot of ammo in the house.

My wife and I have a contingency plan, she can grab the lock box [money and papers], a satchel full of pistols and the cat. I can grab three zippered cases, two un cased guns [yes, I can get all of them on my shoulders] and our baby Chihuahua and be out of the house and into the Toyota in less than 4 minutes. The rest can burn.

Roger That. I must say, your state of readiness is admirable and should prove to be very effective should the POOP ever hit the fan.

Did it mention the length of the exposure? The comment about fire rating is 'dead-on' IMHO, as well as the comment regarding the 'tools' that a typical thief carries. A typical pill-head/meth freak won't carry a noisy grinder and torch along. The vast majority of break-ins are of the 'smash and grab' variety.

I understand that this was a really hot fire and my next comment might not be applicable, but has everyone checked how tightly your safe door seals into the frame? Most quality safes have an adjustment to insure that the door will fit tightly against the frame. Maybe you checked it when it was new, but when was the last time you verified the seal was secure? Just a thought. . . . . . . .

Safes, security systems, smoke detectors, etc., etc. are all tools..aids to keeping ourselves and our possessions as safe as possible..it seems to me that disparaging any of them, separately or in combination, because they don't provide an impenetrable shield to harm is a bit foolish.

I have a good safe; a good alarm system (with a fire detection system connected to it); I have a disaster/evacuation plan (which doesn't need to be all the elaborate since it's just me and my dog and my cat)...I also once had to call my FD as a precaution and they arrived in less than five minutes so I'm not all that far away from help should I need it.

I also have good insurance on everything including a large personal property policy specifically on my firearms.

That said, I'm not operating under any misconception that any of these things are perfect or will always protect me from loss...there is always a "risk"...the providence of God and a bit of fate in the mix.

My cousin had a big safe like that. Thieves stole the whole safe. Yep, wheeled it out. They believe it was an inside job, some hired help, that knew the layout and where everything was, and when they were out of town. So they will deter many thieves, but it does not guarantee it.

Could well be either server settings (such as if you are accessing from a corporate network, etc.) or setting you have on the PC you are using (security settings you may have changed even without intending to)...in any case, the video is there.
