My dad came to visit and was showing me his latest gun show acquisitions when he dropped the news that he was giving me these two:

Colt Cobra .38 Special snubbie:

and Smith & Wesson 686 6-inch .357 magnum:

I don't know why he decided to give me these, but he said they don't have any sentimental value so he doesn't care if I keep or sell either. Revolvers aren't really my thing, but these have instant sentimental value simply because my dad gave them to me. So, I think I'm going to keep one and sell one to put toward something else.

Which one would you keep? I'm leaning toward the Smith. The Cobra would be a dandy carry gun for someone who prefers revolvers, but that just isn't me.

Also, when I gun shop, I don't look at revolvers. Consequently,I have no idea what these might be worth (didn't ask what he paid). Anyone know?

KEEP THE REVOLVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll thank me later. Really, at least go shoot them before selling them.

Your Cobra will bring around $500, ot at least I've had several offers of that for mine, and you'd get about $550 for the 686. I have a strict habit of keeping things my father gave me. So far I haven't regretted it.

I'll second what MacGyver said. Hold on to what your daddy has given you. Some day it will mean something to you, and you can pass it on to family. Besides, he wouldn't have given them to you if he thought it bwas meaningless.

I definately wouldn't get rid of both of the guns, but at the same time I dont think its the end the of the world to let one go so you can get something you really like and would use. I have a S&W 686+ Talo Edition so I'm biased to 686's and that would be my choice.

See that's the other way around for me. Dad came to visit this weekend and dropped off a few 22lr Rifles for me to take to GunTroll for work and went home with my Cattleman .45LC, Little Ranger .22lr, Ultra Compact V-10 .45acp and he tried to give back the .30 cal carbine Blackhawk but got to keep that anyhow. I would say keep them both, I know if my dad gave me a gun it would never leave my hands, and the few he has you'll never see for sale.

If you sell them, you will never see them again...and trust me, IF you sell them, you will try to track them down or at least think about it constantly....and you will fail. Unless you are struggling to pay the light bill or the mortgage or sumthin' just go put them up and forget you ever posted this.

It's not like he gave you an RG or a "Made in West Germany" He gave you top shelf stuff!
