I reloaded my first 5 5.56 rounds and went to try them out. I noticed a ding about a 1/2 up for the head never saw this before with factory ammo. Do I need to change my load?

25 grains of H335

55 grain FMJ

2.220 OAL

Gun is a Danial Defence Carbine length with a 16" barrel

That is kind of a "classic" load... but my BCM is much more accurate with 24.5 grains and shoots great with 24 as well. It would not hurt to try a bit lighter. Always better to start low. I've also got an h3 buffer slowing things down substantially.

a "ding" ? in the case body may be caused by hitting the shell deflector the last time it was fired and is sometimes unavoidable sort of like semi auto pistol case mouths being bent in a bit

a Picture would help us..

Glad to help

I recall reading somewhere how to "time the gun" to the load so that doesn't happen but seem to have lost the link or magazine article

Also have heard of using the loop side of sticky back velcro to cover the shell deflector, sort of a "poor mans port buffer", for those that don't reload.
