Yes they are. They are also less common than the Russian M44's. Most I've seen have been in rough shape.

I have one and the bolt on mine is so smooth. I do not have to use any effort using it. Like 7.62 said mine is banged up a little. Everyone I talk to say that they are one of the better shooters. For what I paid for mine, I am extremely happy.

I just sold my russian yesterday but I will chime in. they are great rifles with VERY cheap ammunition but they have a fair bit of recoil, they are loud and they shoot lots of fire

I saw a Chinese at a gunshow in Livingston one time and it was $250. I thought a little high. It was in decent shape though. I can't remember what the model is on them. Anybody know?

:) Sporterized! Ugh. Another great gun ruined.

My experience with sportsterized M44s is that they aren't as accurate. Removing the bayonet screws with the barrel and causes them to wander.

I have a bone stock early M44, buddy of mine has a sporsterized version, removed bayonet, complete with scout scope. I can consistently outshoot that rifle at 100yds (either shooter) with my factory M44 and iron sights.

Just me, but I wouldn't touch a sportserized M44. Even for just a knock around gun. A 91/30 maybe, maybe even an M38. But once you take that bayonet off an M44, I can't find a use for it.

That is what I am saying, it has been modified, to me, it is not worth any amount of money.

Honestly I feel that anything over $100 is too much for that gun, unless you really really want it. If it were me, I would wait for a good deal to come along for an unmolested M44.

Who shoots their M44 with the bayonet extended? I have shot both of mine like that, but usually shoot with it folded.

Folded w/ a Mojo sight and its very accurate!

Any shops in West TN that sell MNs?

I hit the gun show in Jackson today looking for an M44 but came up empty-handed.
