Any other gamers out there pick this up?

Before I give my review, I must admit that I am a casual gamer, and FPS games are not my forte.

With that said, I am enjoying it. I have played through a couple of the levels on single player, and I am liking the setting. Starting out in suburbia is interesting. I have yet to play a game that has it's setting in the US, so that is kinda fun on a grand scale. Some of the scenes at the beginning are meant purely to evoke an emotional response and get you in the mood. It works.

One thing I don't care for in a FPS and one of the reasons I often choose not to play them is the lack of character development. So far I haven't seen anything to make this different.

The graphics are solid, the gameplay is intuitive if you are used to CoD titles (which made it a blessing for me since CoD:WaW is the only other FPS I have played extensively.)

The multiplayer is where this game is shining though.

Much like other titles you 'level' your character and this effects what you can use out the gate. You can customize your weapons with sights and grenade launchers, use drones, air attacks and so forth.

With only a few hours of play into it, I am pleased and glad that I got it.

I have read a few reviews that are kinda down on the game, but honestly I only see this being a problem for min/max players looking for the next ultra realistic super game. If you are just looking for a new flavor of something comfortable this game might be right up your alley.

I was going to buy it, but the reviews weren't all that great. I will probably hold off since I am also not a big fan of FPS. However, I will probably get Crysis 2 if the reviews are pretty good. Right now, I am playing Dragon's Age II, which is really good.

Enjoying SP so far. The intro movie definitely gets you fired up.

I'm planning to buy it...haven't looked to see what formats it's available for.

I've spent almost all my time since last November with CoD Black Ops; in my fourth prestige level at the moment (I play almost exclusively online).

I used to be the same way until my COD BO crapped out on me. It won't let me on the regular multiplayer mode anymore but I can play zombie mode online. I'm thinking of getting HF as a replacement since I can't figure out my COD BO.

I picked up my copy yesterday and sat down for a couple of hours last night to play.

Pros:

The story, so far, is great. Really makes you think with current events as they are.

The controls are just like COD games. Makes for an easy transition.

Guns are cool with all the different sights. I also like how you have to pick up different guns from fallen soldiers. I feel this adds to the realism of an occupied America.

Cons:

Grenade throwing. When I threw my first grenade it looked like I threw it on myself. The way the graphics are really make it appear as an unnatural motion.

Character tracking. What I mean by this is all enemies are on a track. They move the same way, everytime. When you die, you know exactly where each bad guy is. This is also annoying with the good guys. When your next move is to go up a ladder or crawl through a whole, you are tracked as the last person to do it. Your entire group has to do it first and then you can. Just annoying if you wanna go ahead some.

All in all this game is great. The story line is really what's good about it. It has nothing as far as controls on COD though. The one thing I don't like about COD is how short of a game it is. We will see about homefront.

I went ahead and ordered mine today...should have it by Friday.

The reviews I've read seem to agree with what's been said here...good story (although there was room for improvement); graphics good but not exactly cutting-edge. Single game play is good but where this game seems to shine is in multiplayer mode.

I'm looking forward to getting my copy!

Yahoo linked and article that bashed the single player, but mentioned the multilayer is better. I'd like to see for myself. The story line looks awesome. May pick it up this weekend.

Sad thing is that I was really looking forward to both Homefront and Dragon Age 2, but after reading the reviews for both I managed to talk myself out of buying both of them till the drop to the $40 mark or so. Still have high hopes for Crysis 2, FEAR 3 and Planetside Next though. Perhaps they'll dazzle enough reviewers to make it seem the hard earned cash.

Hey guys I picked up Homefront the day it came out..... and I was let down some. I did have really high hopes from watching all the extra videos and getting into the story line through the HF website. The Campaign was short to me. I finished it the first day, but I must say I had back surgery 3 weeks ago so I am still laying around recovering.... I have time on my hands :) JOHNNY you were right on. I dont know how many times I tried to climb a ladder or crawl under a wall only to have to wait from my team to go at first, that got old in a hurry. Oh and by the way if you need a cheap Flak jacket... Just buy a piece of plywood, cut it down and tape it to your chest and back, you can not shoot through any thing in this game, OSB stops bullets, it gets annoying. With that said the online play is actually really enjoyable. It does remind me of Battlefield bad company, the controls are not as smooth as black ops or any other FPS but you get used to it after awhile. With all that being said it is worth the money just for the online play. I like it because it gives me a break from black ops, I am currently on my 9th prestige and a few levels away from my 10th. If you plan on buying used to save some money just know that you must purchase an online code to play online... that is if the original owner used the one that was provided with the game. If anyone wants to play online sometime hit me up, I dont have to many friends playing this game yet. XBOX GT zS OJSimpson Sz

Ok...so update. I just beat the single player. Maybe a total of 3 hours. It's short...ugh.

Yeah, playtime vs full retail price was the deciding factor in me waiting on both Homefront and DA2. I hate it when I pay full price for a "one day of play and done forever" game.

If you're looking for a long SP game, don't buy this game because you'll be quickly disappointed. I beat the SP in like 2.5 or 3 hours hours. It wasn't hard at all but it has it's annoying little things, like Johnny said, having to wait for everyone on your team to go first before you can advance.

The MP is fun. As it's been said, it's a mix of BF: Bad Comp and CoD. I love the fact you can't shoot through things because in CoD:BO you could shoot through a wall and hit someone in the toe and they would fall over dead. This actually makes it fun so you have to actually hit the player instead of what's in front of them to kill them. The major downside to the online play is that they weren't ready for the massive amount of players they got on the first couple of days that their servers were unable to handle it and it would cause a ton of problems trying to connect to the dedicated servers playing the larger game-types but they are in the process of bringing up more dedicated servers. If you were lucky enough to get into a US dedicated server then you had no problems but the way it worked was that we connected to US servers first then it would send us around the globe to their other servers causing a ton of lag for everyone being that far away from the server.

Personally, my friends and I prefer Homefront over the other FPS shooters out right now. You get to use vehicles, every kill isn't a headshot, you can't kill someone with 1 or 2 pistol rounds, and we find it to just be more fun.

Here is a really stupid question and this sort of applies to any game. :) If I'm playing online on a PS3 (which I do) and, of course, on the PlayStation Network, can I/am I playing against those using X-Box of PC or are only people using the same network playing against each other?

I've never really thought about it before so I really don't know!

I'm not as far along on Black Ops as you are! Every time I finish a level I leave myself there for a while as I try to decide if I want to start all over again! I also don't win many matches but I do finish pretty consistently in the top 3 and I at least have more kills than deaths! :) I'm on PS3 as, surprise, Robert_Nashville and I should have my copy of Homefront when I get home tomorrow afternoon.

@ RobertNashville: Nearly all, if not all, multiplayer games are only against people on the same system type. Microsoft tried letting the 360 people go against PC people with Halo 2, and the PC people consistantly smoked he 360 people. An "average" PC player was as good as a "good" console player. And the "good" PC guys were unbeatable to console people.

yeah no inter console play. I dont mind the fact that you cant shoot to heavy material but plywood and vinyl siding houses things like that you should be able to deal some damage. I am not saying the two shots and your dead but if I put 30 rounds into through the wall you should die. I just played a game online and I sniper was hiding in a window with just half his head showing.... I have a scar with an Acog on it and I shot half a mag at him and never killed him and I did see hit markers. I should be able to shoot through that wall and kill him with that many rounds. If you can find a good window and snipe in this game you can dominate because it's hard to hit just the top half of the head.

Any theories about why that would be? Are the controls/response time that different that it gives PC players an edge?

Keyboard & mouse are much more precise, mainly the mouse, adds a lot of advantage on quick target acquisition and movement, imo. Only FPS I ever played on consoles was the 1st Halo, mainly for the story. Like many PC gamers, I detest the joypad for FPS games.

Yeah the mouse is much quicker and you dont stand a chance playing with a controller. I played counter strike and rainbow six on tje PC but that was about it. I have always been a console gamer. Murgatroy, it was very possible like I said earlier that's all I have been doing. If I see you on I will jump in with you. Have you tried the battlefield commander matches yet?
