is A SkS More Accurate than an AK47

i have heard from some people that an SKS is more accurate than a AK47 is this true

aahh..yes pale face. this can be true.

even at that though, I have heard from several "seasoned" shooters that an SKS is actually more accurate?? I have not shot either enough to notice however.

I find it hard to take a statement like that at face value.. kind of like the old Ford vs. Chevy argument...

My SKS with handloads should outshoot an AK with millitary ball ammo...

a new AK should outshoot an old worn SKS

too many variables to say with any authority a statement that encompassing...

I do know my "as issued" Chinese SKS prefers the bayonet be on the rifle in the folded setting for best accuracy even then as long as I don't need to hit a deer sized target ( 8" kill zone ) any further than say 100-150 yds. it will do fine. However for smaller or farther targets I have other rifles that WILL outshoot an AK or SKS and hit the target harder but that is outside the scope of your question...

As stated, it depends...

On basic principles, I'd agree. The SKS receiver is more robust than a typical sheet metal AK receiver. The SKS barrel is a little longer than a typical AK. Both of those would tend toward slightly better accuracy.

yes an sks would lend itself to being more accurate than an AK. .longer barrell etc... in most instances. . . my friend has a norinco type 56 sks with 20 in barrell that would group much tighter than my maadi arm at long distance (the maadi wasnt too shabby either). . I recently aquired a preban polytech AKS (heavier barrell and heavier reciever than my maadi) 16"barrell and it actually groups better than Alex's sks (although slightly). . So in short I guess the best answer would be a garden variety sks with 20" barrell would be more accurate than a garden variety AKM or clone. . but there will be exceptions. . .

my sks's will shoot better at long ranges than the mak 90 i have. past 100 yards the bullet will drop more on the ak.

my romanian sk is the worst gun i have ever owned as far as accuracy. i dont understand why people put scopes on them. its fun to shoot, but i wouldnt take it to a shooting match. my $.02

I've fired only one SKS and one AK 47. The SKS was far more accurate than the AK.
