Illegal Dumping on My Property

Make it difficult for them to get to spots used for dumping. If they are worried about getting their vehicle stuck or damaged, they'll find an easier place to dump.

Talk to the local TWRA officer. They usually get very interested in illegal dumping, especially if it involves a creek or waterway.

This reminds me of an Arlo Guthrie story that took place in Stockbridge Massachusetts. You need to look for an envelope at the bottom of that pile of trash.

This:

Years ago my property was the on the receiving end of similar dumping that included household garbage. A bit of messy sleuthing turned up several letters with names and an address. One short unpleasant visit to the address and a conversation and Mr. xxxxxxxx soon realized that he had a serious problem if he did not clean up the mess as the law had been alerted. A very short time later Mr. xxxxxxx and his kids were out cleaning up the mess. IMO, anyone who is dumb enough to dump is dumb enough to leave a trail. Even the serial number on an appliance may be enough to trace the culprit.

This is a good tactic, but I would not recommend going to the house personally without LEO company. We have sent certified letters, this requires a signature and serves as official notice for law suits if needed

As a side business I do CCTV sales and installations. I have dealt with dumping on two occasions in the surrounding areas here in Chattanooga. Do not contact the EPA or the TN Department of Environment & Conservation unless you want them taking over and putting everything off on you. they will not investigate to find the dumpers, it is your land and there fore your responsibility as they see it.

Fencing the area or baring it from entrance is the best deterrent. And put up signs (LARGE SIGNS) that say cameras are in use and dumpers will be prosecuted. Contact your local DAs office and talk to the local DA, tell them about your peoblem, and ask what they are willing to do to help. You might have a green blooded DA who will not tolerate dumping and they might put pressure on local LEOs to do something... then again you might get a DA that thinks dumping is a way of life... either way you will find out where you stand.

With you having 60 plus acres, I would use a wireless DVR system, probably a repeater, and set up at the home, and put cameras in the trees high up to where they will get license plates and people. Set on motion activation, even with 50 cars going by every day, if you set the DVR up correctly, do a 30 second record, meaning that it records 30 seconds before motion and 30 after, it will be slow to fill the hard drive. No wires to the camera, they are battery operated, and when mounted high enough they will not be detected. Night vision is not really something I would worry about because most dumping is done durring the day, and night vision only works well at 15-20 feet from the camera.... doubt you would mount that close to the road. The wireless camera system will run a pretty penny, but once you have the dumping under control, you can move them to other locations. Or pack the whole system up and sell it to get 80% of your money back out of it provided everything is working and in good condition.

Also, you can put down tacks in the area where you know they pull over onto the shoulder of the road. Flatten some tires....
