the reason a lot of folks leave Illinois as well.

I seriously doubt a lot of people leave Illinois over firearms laws.

Dave why do you need a FOID card anymore anyway?

Well until a couple of months ago I was taking my rifles and handguns up there to shoot with some family members. We had access to land out in the county and had the permission of the owner to shoot there.

But I have quit doing that. I see no provision in Illinois law for me to be in possession of firearms or ammunition without a FOID card. I have posed the question on some Illinois forums and ask some people; but I don’t have a clear cut answer from a creditable source. Even if not convicted the chance of being arrested and having my weapons seized is too great.

Dave so am I to understand that you canot take your legally owned rifles or handguns to Illinois ( not Chicago) even if stored properly in your trunk?

Wow, if that is the case it is fairly well screwed up. Glad I don't go back there anymore.

And I agree it is not worth the risk of arrest and gun confiscation.

I got out of state deer hunting permits for Illinois twice a few years ago. Out of state people can bring guns into the state legally, without a FOID. When you are transporting a gun in IL, it must be unloaded and in a case and the ammunition has to be in another part of the vehicle...away from the gun......I would keep the gun cased in the trunk and the ammo in the back seat. I know having a gun for hunting with an out of state permit is legal......and transporting a gun is legal......but as far as just shooting a gun there, I'm not sure about.

I can legally take them there; it’s using them that is a problem.

I don’t go anywhere near Chicago with guns.

Yes, out of state hunters are okay with the proper permits. I think there is also a provision for out of state shooters in competitions.
