Rem 700 Heavy barrel 308 what would be a nice base and rings? picatiny? weaver?

+1 to the Badger rings and base. They are the best out there IMO. But I think you posted in another thread that you wanted to keep your scope under $300, so I doubt you will want to pay $200+ for your rings and base.

If you want something inexpensive that works every time, get Weaver bases and rings. If you want something that looks a little better, bet Redfield style mounts and rings. I'm not sure why you'd want a picatinny rail mounted on your rifle, but I guess I'm just a crotchety old fart.:shhh:

i want to do a 20 moa base.. thinking egw.. and possibly burris xtr rings .. thinking millet trs-1

If you're wanting a 20 MOA base, that indicates that you're planning on shooting beyond 500 yards. I think you're going to find that a $300 scope is not up to the task.
