Let's Make Obama King

Last night Col. Ralph Peters was on Bill O'Reilly's show, talking about Libya. Peters thinks we should act on behalf of the rebels there, but he expressed skepticism that President Obama will ever do anything. "Obama loves the idea of being President," Peters said, "but he can't make a decision."

I think there is a lot of truth to that, even in domestic policy, where Obama has passively deferred to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi on all legislative matters. One can debate whether action is appropriate in Libya or not, but Peters is certainly right when it comes to foreign policy--it is a safe bet that Obama will do nothing, because doing something would require a decision.

That got me thinking: Obama enjoys being president, and he especially treasures the symbolic significance of being the first African-American president. That's how his supporters feel, too. I haven't heard anyone defend his actual performance in a long time, but there is still widespread satisfaction with the symbolic value of his presidency. So why don't we make him king? If being the first African-American president has symbolic value, just think what it would mean for the first King of the United States to be African-American! Plus, Michelle would be a queen and Malia and Sasha would be princesses. How cool would that be?

I realize that there are constitutional issues with establishing a new office of kingship, but they are nothing that couldn't be cured with a hastily-called constitutional convention. The king would have no duties beyond golf, so Obama would be perfect for the job. Our king would need a place to live, of course--we need to coax Obama out of the White House--so I'm thinking one of those big houses in Newport, Rhode Island would be ideal. Safely out of the way.

Then we could hold a special election and choose a real president. Probably, given the temper of the times, he or she would be a Republican. On no account would our new constitutional arrangement allow Joe Biden to succeed Obama. He would make a terrific viceroy, or possibly court jester.

Sure, it seems like a radical solution. But consider the alternative. The more I think about it, the better I like it: Obama for King!

Easier, just suspend 2012 elections due to national emergency (said emergency yet to be manufactured).

The emergency can last decades; it's worked well for various other dictators around the world. It's just an extended form of Chicago politics.

Somehow or another he may try to pull that off. I wouldn't put anything past him at this point.

The way Congress is, I wouldn't doubt it if they went along with him, except for the Tea Partiers.

that sounds fine to be but let him be king somewhere else.

No kidding. Let him be king of some country for which he feels no need for a world apology tour.

He just wants to make speeches, not decisions. Sadly it's a strategy that will probably get him reelected. The people easily swayed by "the show" will buy it just like they did last time. Accomplishments, good or bad, mean nothing to these people...our school system at work, churning out idiots every year.

"Easier, just suspend 2012 elections due to national emergency (said emergency yet to be manufactured)." Interesting thought OS...

But, World Wars did not stop the election process. Even the "Civil" War did not stop elections. (Note: Civil War is what Libya is having, what the US had was a war of succession... And, there are good arguments the way Lincoln held the election was not legal...)

It would have to be something more severe / critical than these events. Or perhaps we can have all the computerized election voting machines simply not work...

As for Libya, it seems our "brilliant" intelligence community is saying Khaddafi will remain in power, despite not holding the majority of the land... (Brilliant is in quotes, as they have been so effective of late... Like notifying about the mass rebellions in the first place...)

One thing he has done which is smart, has been transporting Egyptians back home. Perhaps this humanitarian move (and the lack of interference in Egypt's mess) may be politically beneficial, as we want Egypt and Israel to keep playing nice...

AS for the King Joke, didn't the libs make similar jokes on W? Hmm. Yup.

Ralph Peters was a classmate of mine while attending the Command & General Staff College. He is the smartest guy that I have ever had daily contact with. His comments about BarryO are on the mark.

Read his book, "The War in 2020" and remember that Raiph wrote it in late 1989, early 1990. The man could see the future that was coming.

Lets make the King irrelevant in 2012.

His latest speech on the current fuel crisis proves once again that he is a bold faced lair.
