One of the great things about firearms is their intimate connection to history - when you hold a weapon in your hand that, say, was made 400 yeas ago it's a tangible connection going all the way back through all those others who owned it...held it...used it...to the craftsman who made it.

Neat story. To bad they don't smear a little oil on the poor gun every 20 years or so.

Yea, no doubt it ended up in a foot locker in the attic for quite a while and was forgotten about until spring cleaning or something.

Very cool story and pics.

Given the time for evac and medical care back then, that gun slowing down that bullet most likely saved that Marine's leg and maybe even his life.
