The SPS Tactical is one of the best base guns to use to build a long range project. Replace the stock, add a good base and set of rings and decent glass and you're ready to go. The most important thing about long range shooting is spending a lot of time on the range. Practice is more important than gear.

I shoot 1k w/ a 20" barrel. That rifle is fine for 200-600. As has been stated, get some good rings and a base for your glass, find a stock that you like (I personally hate most HS and Remington stocks), and practice. Fundamentals are extremely important.

I've got one and love it. I've shot out to 615 yards with it and it grouped pretty well using 168 grain Federal rounds. I was using the factory stock and shot from a bipod.
