I don't know jack about photography (or anything really) so tell me why I like second duck photo so much. Is it just me or is that the best pic?

It's a spectacular pic. Motion shots are always awesome when you catch them.

Don't take this personally Howler, but are all those pics untouched? They are very nice. I was just wondering if you're that good or if you sharpened them a bit through software.

It appears he is using a wide aperture and a fast shutter speed which causes a shallow depth of field. Which means it is blurring the background and making those ducks “Pop out†at you.

If that is the case I doubt he needed anything to “touch up†that photo.

Good shots. I’m not a hunter but I love to photograph and watch animals in the wild.

I'm using a Canon 50D with a couple different lenses. I've added different filters to the lenses giving the photos a different look. (kinda like putting on sunglasses with a different colored lens) And like Dave said, changing the depth of field makes the animals pop out. I don't photoshop, but with my camera and software I can change brightness, hue, sharpness, and saturation. If you change any of the settings much the photos will look bad. I tend to shoot overexposed at times. I can load the images to the computer and correct the problem.

I bought the camera to take sports pics of my daughter. However, the softball coach refused to let me on the field or in the dugout to take pics. My daughter played centerfield, so most of the pictures were at a great distance. I did get a chance to change shutter speeds as she caught fly balls. Some looked like the ball had no action to it and others looked like a rocket coming into her glove.

I like to go to events and take pictures. Ball games, shooting ranges, family reunions, etc. If I get a chance to meet some of you at a shoot I'll bring the camera and take some action shots and post them on here.

Get the 200/f4 with a 2x Teleconverter, puts you moderately in the action.
