Anyone been scouting out any birds? I seen 4 last Saturday (at least one was a tom) in the field where I hunt. A friend of mine seen a very large flock on his land. I may get more serious about hunting those "dirt peckers" this year. We'll see...

I'm going to try and get TGO member "Whiskey" to teach me to call them in a little better. We'll see what happens...

I'd love to come up and find all your ticks on your land with you if you want. Whiskey too if three's not a crowd for you guys.

No crowd as far as I'm concerned. I'll have to pull myself off the crappie and out of my boat long enough!

I've seen quite a few mainly hens, but there is two big gobblers thats not going to make it passed opening day if I have my say so.

WD,

205 was the number JG called breathing heavy over. He was in shock. I have never seen 200 turkey in one flock, but I am going to see them Saturday, if they show up.

Been seeing them everywhere, got a couple of flocks of around 100 birds on my farm. Seen 9 Long beards this morning.

Yes they were gobbling. We set up close to them and called a coyote in but couldn't get a good shot on him. I think the coyotes had them stirred up.

Yes they are starting to gobble. There were several that sounded like good birds but you could hear the jakes as well. The hens were also going crazy.

Now that you mention it, I have heard the difference. When my wife of 35 years gets mad at me, she sounds alot like a Jake gobbling! Going crappie fishing here in a bit, will listen for some birds while I'm out too.

I believe I am on the verge of having a real problem. I may already be "uncontrollably obsessed" with turkey hunting. It started last week when I ordered a Cody slate call and it went over the edge today when I bought one of these...

I don't want to sound dumb, but what's the difference between a Jake and Tom gobble?

Mature gobbler's...well...gobble, while the jake's do more of a garble, garbling (trying to master it) sound. Once heard, you'll know the difference right off.

That's a dang sweet turkey buster you've got there, Whiskey.

Usually a jake's gobble is actually an attempt at a gobble. Often it ends in more of a yelp like sound. It is broken and slower than a mature gobble too.

I've heard them I think. Just didn't connect the dots is all. The noise I heard I thought was a Tom with asthma!
