Anyone been to Savage Gulf?

I'm always trying to find new places to hike within a reasonable distance. A friend told me about Savage Gulf and I thought I would check it out. I think I can make the drive from Knoxville in about 2 hours.

Can anyone recommend a good trail. We won't be staying the night, just looking for a good day hike. Thanks.

The Rim trails are great. The hike out to Hobbes Cabin is a lot of fun. Greeter Falls is good in the summer. Going down through Stone Door is a lot of fun, too.

Consider Fiery Gizzard trail, also a part of South Cumberland State Park. The Grundy Forest Day Loop with possible trip to and from Raven Point if you have the time would be my recommendation here. Friends Of South Cumberland State Park has a good website with descriptions of all the trails that the park includes and directions to the different areas. At Savage Gulf, the two main access points are Savage Gulf Ranger Station (quick access to Savage Falls) and the Stone Door Ranger Station (quick access to the Stone Door descending into the gulf).

Went there this fall for the first time. It is a very pleasant place for day hikes. As was mentioned, Stone Door and Greeter falls are both must see destinations.

Great sites. Unusual place. Its actually 10 areas in 4 counties that are under the South Cumberland State Recreation Area. Preserved a bunch of scattered places from development. As someone said, check out the Friends website.
