Tragic accidental death with a pellet rifle.

This was a terrible accident. My prayers go out to the family. Channel 5 news reported this on their nightly news tonight. I have been watching WRAL since Jesse Helmes gave his nightly commentaries in the 1960s. I must say that WRAL is as anti-second ammendment as any TV station in the country. As I listened to their report of this tragic accident I heard them say "Even though he was doing the right thing by checking the safety, the gun still went off." This statment would seem to indicate that no matter what you do, a gun can still fire and kill innocent people. Even if it's just a pellet rifle. I tried to explain to my wife that this was a flawed statement, but like a million people watching TV tonight, she could not comprehend what I was saying.

so sad.

safety or not, I would not set a loaded gun (bb or otherwise) down inside my house unattended.

as many above had said. The gun went off because the trigger was pulled. no way around it.

Remember this next time someone says a .22 pistol is not worth carrying. It all comes down to placement.

Although I am all for people carrying whatever they can carry (ei, a 22 is better than nothing, but not as good as somthing bigger).

I would love to see someone be able to consistantly shoot even a 22 in a moving target the size of an eyeball while under stress.
