Today at Dr. office medical assistant in and out of the exam room several times, I answered questions for the exam, walked through the facility.

Was there for over an hour before she noticed I had a gun on my hip.

She did not freak or panic, merely stated she had not noticed. (She is also very familiar with firearms.)

If asked for your HCP and you denie it....You'll probably have to scrap your face off the concrete (or whatever the surface you're standing on). I CALL BS on that story!!!

I had a LEO approach me at food city while I was oc. He said a customer stopped him and pointed me out. LEO told me that he told the lady who pointed me out. " if I was not here and someone robbed this store, that man may save your life". He told me if I get his back he will have mine and chuckled.

Do people think or react differently to women OC'ing?.....

And why would they react differently?

This might give some insight:

"I was riding to work yesterday when I observed a female driver, who cut right in front of a pickup truck, causing the driver to drive onto the shoulder to avoid hitting her.

This evidently angered the driver enough that he hung his arm out

his window and gave the woman the finger.

'Man, that guy is stupid,' I thought to myself. I ALWAYS smile nicely and wave in a sheepish manner whenever a female does anything to me in traffic, and here's why:

I drive 48 miles each way every day to work.

That's 96 miles each day.

Of these, 16 miles each way is bumper-to-bumper.

Most of the bumper-to-bumper is on an 8 lane highway.

There are 7 cars every 40 feet for 32 miles.

That works out to 982 cars every mile, or 31,424 cars.

Even though the rest of the 32 miles is not bumper-to-bumper,

I figure I pass at least another 4000 cars. That brings the number to something like 36,000 cars that I pass every day.

Statistically, females drive half of these. That's 18,000 women drivers!

In any given group of females, 1 in 28 has PMS. That's 642.

According to Cosmopolitan, 70% describe their love life as dissatisfying or unrewarding. That's 449.

According to the National Institute of Health, 22% of all females have seriously considered suicide or homicide. That's 98.

And 34% describe men as their biggest problem. That's 33.

According to the National Rifle Association, 5% of all females carry weapons and this number is increasing.

That means that EVERY SINGLE DAY, I drive past at least one female that has a lousy love life, thinks men are her biggest problem, has seriously considered suicide or homicide, has PMS, and is armed.

Give her the finger? I don't effing think so!"

On a serious note, I think people always react differently to women than they do to men, regardless of the situation. I'd go a step further and posit that when women open carry, most automatically assume they're (the ladies) off-duty LEO. Or at least that seems to be what I've observed here in Tennessee. (My home state of Kansas, where open carry is more prevalent due to permit being needed only for concealed carry, is considerably different.)

I would have slapped the cuffs on you. You could have had your HCP revoked for that action as you were in fact violating the law. You do have to show yours HCP any and everytime a LEO ask for it. You just don't have to volunteer the information.

BTW, I have recently found out any "elected" magistrate can revoke a HCP in this state. I saw it happen on Tuesday.

Well if you're a cop I'm not very comfortable about it. If you're not I hope you stay that way.

That's what kind of cops we need more of!

Unless a cop asks you to do something illegal, you pretty much have to obey even if he is wrong to ask. On the street is not the place to take it up. While you are "educating" a cop on the law, you are tying him up from getting on with his day and thus impeding him/her in protecting and serving.

I have a grandmother that has dementia. She was beating on us and we had to call 911 for ambulance but they sent 2 Mpd city Leo instead. When they seen what she was doing, how. Violent she was they asked if any guns were in the house, I said none except this one on my hip iwb. Both officers said they liked the idea of good citizens having them. It made the city safer.

This is what we need !

Sorry, cops harassing legal carriers shopping with a gun in a holster not bothering anyone is not what we need. I'd say Joe Schmoe walking through a store with a gun on his hip shopping and minding his own business in highly unlikely to be a criminal. If he was a criminal,it would most likely be hidden unless they already robbed or assaulted someone. Then asking for a permit is kinda pointless.

I have offered my permit to officers when pulled over for something else and they declined needing to see it.

How does "LEO" know that you are LEGALY carrying if he doesn't ask for your permit? They get paid very little to "ASSUME" anything! How does "LEO" know, that YOU aren't JOE SCHMOE the criminal?

In the state of TN it is illegal to carry a firearm. Having a permit is an exception to the law. So if a LEO sees someone carrying a firearm, that person is in violation of the law until they provide proof they are legally allowed to carry it. They're just doing their jobs... you know... enforcing laws.

I have been a LEO for 6 plus yrs.

Exactly, someone denying to display a HCP or other credentials to carry is in violation of the law. AKA a criminal. I don't go around asking to see everyone's permit but if I see a particular someone I have a question about I will ask if I'm in my jurisdictional right.

When I see a woman OC, I think that is very cool. My observation of people that notice a woman OC, they don't get into a panic. Sometimes a mildly suprised look.

When I see my wife OC, I think "She used to bitch at me for doing it!"

So,how many open carriers have you asked to see their permit? How many didn't have one?

My take on woman open carry seems as woman being less of a threat to others. Most criminals are men. I dont open carry to simply just avoid the drsma..after all..we do shop at Wal-Mart..hehehe

On not showing your permit if asked....if you are not gonna comply with the laws that come along with the priviledge of carrying a firearm...then you dont need to carry.

Ive probably only asked about 10 or less and found 2 that didn't have one. One guy thought if he was open carrying he didn't need one.(this happens a lot) The other guy had a empty gun so it wasn't too relevant. I don't go around asking the people I see, I do when I'm called to a MWG or they happen to be fitting a description or something.

This misses the point. As Patton said in his experience 20% don't have one. Sure neither of those were what you would call "hardened criminals". But it's the same principle as pulling someone over for having one broken tail light out of 3 (counting the "cyclops"). It's a courtesy stop and often just results in the citizen learning they have a broken light. However, it's also a great way to catch people who have warrants etc.

On a slight tangent, have you ever bitched that cops won't take action to prevent a crime? Like waiting for a guy to actually put his wife in the hospital before they arrest him? Well isn't this exactly what you are asking them to do? Be proactive? Not wait for the guy to start shooting before they take action?

^Most of the Man with a gun calls come in from financial institutions, doctors offices, or liquor stores. You know most of the places people think you can't carry a gun into anyway. Movie theaters kind of get a lot of MWG calls and so do some of the restaurants that still think if they serve alcohol you can't carry there. I've found out nurses are the worst to freak out about a man with a gun.

I'm almost certain that a Deputy that was behind me in line at Kroger a few weeks ago saw the imprint of the butt of my pistol that I was CC'ing. Wouldn't have been hard for him to notice as I'm unloading the cart, especially the stuff underneath. Out of the corner of my eye it seemed as if he had been taking notice, or maybe he was admiring the view. Either way, he didn't say anything. I assume it was because I didn't look like a thug and had two kids with me.... all in context.

However, had one of the employees had noticed and alerted the deputy I would figure he's obligated to investigate. Am I right LEOs or would it still be up to the discretion of the officer whether or not to engage me?

This same scenario played out in OC I would figure would have the same results.

I have been Voluntereed a lot of HCP's in the last few weeks, there growing at a fast rate. I never even talk about it any further and can't remember a time that I've even ticketed a HCP holder.
