On my way back from Nashville went to visit my step father in Milan, was on my way to Humboldt to see my wifes grandmother, went into Gibson, TN, dropped down to the posted speed limit, got out of town, sped up, bam, 47 in a 30! Never saw a speed limit sign. Had my permit out. He took DL and permit, stepped back, gave back my permit, asked where, he just said with a smile, leave it there, was hoping he would come back with a warning. Came back and said that he doesn't want me to get hit on insurance since I don't have anything on my record, so call next week and get the amount and pay the fine, he did not check that I have to come to court. He didn't knock down the speed though. I guess that much over I could have been made to go to court.

How much is this going to be? This was a City of Gibson cop, he was the chief. he said something about it being on a state highway and state designate speed zone, I might have been mistaken due to my kids laughing and saying "Ohhhh daddy's going to jail!"

I had a nice run in with the Highway Patrol in New Mexico, I got busted going 73 in a 50. I hadn't seen a sign in a while and I was out of the "town" if you could call it that, so I thought I was clear to run at highway speeds. Turns out when I stop I'm staring at the 65 mph sign about 100 yards in front of me. I told the cop that with the sign in front of me this is going to sound stupid but I thought I was in the 70 mph zone. He had a good laugh and informed me that it wasn't for a few more miles. After seeing that I was visiting he asked how much longer I was in town, I told him only 1 more day and he said as long as I don't get pulled over again all I was going to get was a written warning. The nice thing was the written warning was for doing 65 in a 50.

It's good to get out easy. I was pulled over another time in North Carolina for going 79 in a 55, didn't see the speed changed on me. I paid a lawyer who used to be the DA in the city to get me off, it cost me $450 to keep my license.

I've never received a speeding ticket I didn't deserve, and while I drive like an old woman for the most part nowadays, I give up on excuses and talk. There's not one thing you can come up with that they have not heard. The last time I was pulled over I went the opposite way. It was on I40 by a Trooper, so you KNOW you're getting the ticket. He asked me "You know why I pulled you over tonight sir?" I said "Yessir, I was frickin' flyin' back there. What'd ya clock me at? I figure around 85." I got an 83 in a 70. He just smiled. He even commented how polite it was that I had my info out BEFORE he got there and that I kept my hands on the steering wheel the whole time. Funny thing about Troopers, they don't back down from writing a ticket BUT I had lost insurance card also, the wife tried to show him proof on her Iphone and by the fact that we still owe for the vehicle, therefore we have to have full coverage. He said that's not good enough, but neglected to put that on the ticket. He wasn't stupid, he didn't forget. Even small favors are welcome.

I deserved it I'm sure, I don't drive fast any more typically, but I just didn't see the speed limit sign. Funny you mention insurance, he didn't ask, I didn't offer, I checked and out new cards were at home, the ones we had expired 1/30. So he could have put that one on there as well.

Gibson is absolutely one of the worst speed traps in the state. They'll write a ticket for 31 in a 30. If you had been lucky enough to be following someone who knows that town you would not have gotten a ticket unless you pulled out and passed.

Looking at the place I got to call, it is the "Town of Gibson", not much of a town there, just a few commercial buildings, I'm wondering if I will get the Chief when I call. They have a court there. I looked it up, the city is listed in the speedtrap.org site, 7 comments, most near where I was.

Need to beat some respect into those kids. ;)

I got pulled over for going around 110 in a 55 zone. I-40 westbound at the Gallaher View exit. NO TICKET. If anyone can beat that, I'll buy you lunch.

Cant beat it, but I can come close. I was still on actvie duty in 02 and my command was in Fallon, Nevada training. I left a day early to pick up my wife at the airport in San Diego. I had just picked up my new 03 Dodge Ram days before we went to Fallon. It was around 2 am and I am heading South on the 395. I had just gotten gas in Independance and after the lights from the town faded in my rear view I figured I would see where a stock Ram was "governed", As it hit 104 the flashing lights came on... from WAY back down there road. LOL I pulled over and turned on all the inside lights and had my liscence and insurance ready. I didnt have a tag or registration. As i was sitting there waiting for him to show up I noticed my unifrom hanging right behind me. I was thinking that wasnt a good move as the CHP wouldnt be able to see me from his vehicle. I didnt try to move it, I just sat there with all 4 windows down and inside lights on. After he came up to the window and asked if I knew why he pulled me over I said "I guess I was going a little fast", which brought a good chuckle from him. Now keep in mind this is in Inyo County which is pretty much know for a lot of not so nice things. After he took my info and went back to his car to call it in. I am thinking I am going to get towed as the posted limit is 55. He came back a looked into the truck and saw my uniform and knew where I had been (Fallon) and where i was going (San Diego). He asked why i was in such a hurry and I told him the truth. He then asked about my pending deployment, it turned out he was a Vietnam Vet, Navy Corpsman. After he asked if my truck was capable of doing 60 mph through Inyo County (I assured him that it could) he wrote me a no seat belt ticket. ;)

I'll call that a tie just because it's a much better story! Thank you for your service!

I got busted this morning. I live in a railroad town, and trains are always stopping in the middle of town changing tracks and what not. This morning, I was approaching the tracks and the gates came down. I stopped, and a single locamotive came down the track and stopped about 100' from the crossing. I waited for a couple minutes, looked both ways, went around the gates, and crossed the track. This seems dangerous, but you can clearly see in both directions. It is a very common thing for people to do this in town; however, the copper in the other side of the tracks did not think it was acceptable. I pulled over, gave him all the stuff, and waited. He comes back and presents me with a $145 ticket for disregarding railroad signs. Needless to say, I am a bit pissed about it. I have seen LEOs in town do the very samething. I guess this is just part of serving and protecting.

Thanks Eric. After I thought about my post I guess I should also note that I DID have a temp registration. It was taped to the inside of the windshield. And that folks has been my one and only speeding ticket in past 43 years of driving. :D

I've been pulled over a total of three times, all for the same violation, illegal tinted cover on my license plate (Its smoked but its clearly visible until you get far away as 100 feet, then you can't really see the numbers). First was by THP, and the last two times was by KCSO about 3-4 yrs ago.

No ticket, just simply told me to take it off when I got home with a warning....well, the plate cover is still on there. Haven't gotten pulled over since.

Of course, I may've just jinxed myself now! :D

I live in Trenton (Gibson Co), if I were going from Milan to Humbolt, I would going around Gibson just to bypass the trap. I know back in the fall they were writing over 300 speeding tickets per month. Most folks were told no need to come to court just pay the fine.

Why not just take it off, since it is illegal.

Because if it was illegal, why do auto stores sell them? And I see quite a few people have them around town so if that many have it on their cars, how come cops don't do anything?

And I looked up for info about it and it says nothing saying that they are illegal?

well my window tint is illegal but I'm not taking it off. I love the privacy and it looks great. I've been stopped numerous times and they have never mentioned the tint.

KB, do you guys enforce the tint laws much?

X2 on window tint. Mine is 15% and my last previous vehicle had 15% front with 5% all rear too for a while. No issues.

Love the privacy it provides.

Medina, Tn. (Gibson County) is also a speed trap. Red light cameras and speed radar cameras. They have been averaging about 120 tickets a day, according to one of the local newspapers, from these cameras. The town is not much bigger than Gibson and only a few miles away.

Appears to me it is a violation.

Window tint (depending on the car it’s on) might put you in the “Target Vehicle†category. I usually wouldn’t write it, but its great PC for a stop.

Can't beat that (the getting off part) because I didn't get pulled. Passed LEO sitting under a bridge doing 122, he didn't budge. Guess he thought he'd never catch me, not that I'd run, but I don't slow down just at the sight of LEO. Now, if he'd popped his lights, I'd have slowed down and waited for him to catch up and took my lumps.

I take back what I said about not getting stopped for my tint. Almost forgot that I did get stopped 1 time really late at night in Lenoir City. The LEO stopped me because of my tint and then he used a little thingamabob to tell him how dark it was. I'm pretty sure he just wanted a reason to stop me to see if I was drunk or something. He let me go without a ticket.
