Poor, poor, poor

Ok, no one is allowed to talk about any cool guns/gear I might want for a while. Today I took the plunge and paid off my car note. Needless to say, my discretionary savings is GONE. I am po' for the next 15 days. Anyone planning on holding me up, choose someone else. Nothing in this wallet but some moths...

You know what happens when you pay off your car right??????

It breaks!!!!!:rofl::D:p

Hopefully not.

What was yr car payment? How many months early did you pay it off? Multiple those two numbers and that's how much you saved. Which can be used to buy guns and ammo, of course.

And the guns wont depreciate as much as a car does.

Paid for cars jsut drive better. Congrats!

Oh, and wait a month or two for the Government cheese to roll in. Hey, they want you to spend it, so it's kind of like a rule. You may as well buy some toys.

Government cheese to roll in.

I believe that cheese belongs to our kids and grandkids.

Way to go paying off the ride Len. I did it a year ago to pay it off 18 months early. Was a good move for me.

Congrats on getting out of that trap. More money for things that are important-- like guns and ammo. I have not owned a car for 7 years. My wife has one. I have 7 bicycles instead.

NASCAR just isn't that interesting for bicycle drivers.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

I paid it off 24 months early (Its actually still under warranty.) I had a really low interest rate, but I can make slightly better in an online money market account I maintain, so it made a tiny bit of financial sense to pay it off early. Its a Honda Accord, which hold value pretty well, so it was a good transaction for me all the way around.

Of course, now the car payment $ can be used for other fun stuff, like things that go bang or stocks. Might use some of the money to be a little bit more risky in investments than I generally am with my retirement $.

Old goat: Yeah, I thought about trading for something new and shiny that can haul all my stuff to the range, but I stopped myself. For now...

Excellent vehicle choice. I've driven an Accord since 2000 (I believe). The one I just traded in recently had 265,000 miles on it. Great cars!

That's awesome Len. My wife and I have been working on paying off as many of our bills as we can since we got married (2 yrs and counting). After we get our tax return back this year, we will have eliminated close to $30,000 of our combined debt and save into the 5 figure mark. Now we just need to buckle down and get our car paid off......Doesn't it feel great. When I was a teenager, I thought spending money and creating debt felt good, but now I'm convinced that paying off all your bills is far more pleasing. I'm just waiting on the day that I can take one of my pay checks and buy whatever on God's green earth I want with no stings attached.......Congrats again Len. Hope your car has 200,000 more left in it.

I totally agree. I made that comment tongue in cheek. I think the whole "rebate" is an election year gimmick. It's being given to lots of people who didn't even pay taxes, and being denied to the people who paid the most.

That said, if they are sending me a check, I'm not sending it back. However, unlike Congress, I'll probably put mine in savings.

Good for you Boomhower! Definitely the way to go. I agree -paying off debt feels so much better than incurring it! My next goal is to pay off the mortgage. That might take some time...

265k on an Accord and you traded it? That engine was just starting to hit its prime!! :D

Serioulsy, I have heard many similar stories. Great car, no complaints, especially at the gas pump.

You just had a couple pieces of bad luck. A guy who lived down the hall from me my freshman year of college had a hand-me down early model Accord with 800k miles on it, and he's still driving it.
