Is "Point muzzle in safe direction" rule number one, or two?

KNOXVILLE - A North Knoxville woman was shot in the stomach by her husband this afternoon in what police say appeared to be an accidental shooting.

The Knoxville Police Department and first responders were called to the couple's Farris Drive residence shortly after 4 p.m., according to an E-911 dispatcher.

The victim, who was not identified, had suffered a single gunshot wound to her mid abdomen, said KPD Sgt. Shawn Neal.

The woman, who is in her 60s, was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.

"She appeared to be fairly calm," Neal said.

The husband had just returned from a shooting range and was attempting to clean his .45-caliber handgun when it fired.

"The investigation is ongoing," said Neal. But, "It appears to be accidental."

More details as they develop online and in Wednesday's News Sentinel.

Every time I go to the range I am amazed at the number of times I get muzzled. People are idiots.

Agreed, I'm pretty much too scared to visit a range, when we do its during the off times.

And if a guy is there teaching a girl, we run!

 Yeah, I share the same sentiment... I've never been so scared in my life, as when I went to get my training course for my HCP a few years ago, and a young girl was there doing the same. I just side-stepped a few lanes down, and tried to laugh it off.

girls are no worse than any of the guys that I see at the range that point their gun where ever they please. In fact, I'd bet the majority of women at the range are more cautious than some guys.

I noticed last time I was at Sevierville range. There was a bullet hole in one of the lane divider wall thingys. I didn't check the other side to see if the dividers are bullet proof.

If you like going to the range don't EVER watch a class or even just some regular customers. You wont go back. Holy crap why more don't get killed.

a little while back i was at CHMR (used to be Owl Hollow) doing a little shooting in the pistol pit. while sitting there waiting my turn i started looking around and noticed bullet holes in the support beams by the tables. looked up and noticed holes in the covering. looked back and noticed bullet holes in the rear support beams (back toward the parking lot and road). i had to shake my head, b/c i truly don't understand now that happens.

Charlie did tell me he had a guy try to write his name or something in the roof on the rifle side one day...using a .22LR i believe.

This story has to be a lie - there's zero chance she lived after being hit with the death-ray-like .45.

In fact, my understanding is they wouldn't have even been able to identify the body.

He wishes. Now he's never going to hear the end of it for as long as he lives.

"Honey, can you run to the store and get me some tampons?"

-- "I would really prefer not to."

"Remember that time you shot me in the stomach..."

-- "Yes, dear; anything you want. I'll get some ice cream for you, too." :D

"Honey, are you sure about X? Because I think Y."

-- "Of course, dear."

"As sure as you were that your gun was unloaded before you shot me in the stomach with it?"

-- "Upon further reflection, you were right. Clearly it was Y rather than X. I'm sorry."

Looks like the Darwin Awards need to come up with a team category.

No, Darwin Awards are only for people that remove themselves from the gene pool.

I believe there are 3 Be Rules to Gun safety and you can screw up any 2 of them and still not hurt anyone. You have to break 3 of them to hurt someone.

1. Keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

2. Keep it your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

3. Keep it unloaded until ready to shoot.

BTW. I want to add another. You can not CLEAN a LOADED firearm. How many times do we see someone shot while a firearm is being cleaned? To damn many.

You, my friend, obviously don't talk to divorce clients on a regular basis... I was in a Courtroom looking a my Blackberry so you can guess what my first thought was....

You are correct. Thank goodness I don't have to or I might be the one accidently discharging my firearm. :)

That's a jerk off response.......Guarantee you that my daughter (37) is a better shot and has more control over her weapon than 99% of the guys on here.

I’m not even going to bother pointing out that I was taking my wife (a woman) to the range or how aggressive you all are at a comment about a guy teaching a girl, hence she knows jack chit about jack chit.

The ones to watch out for, guy OR girl, are the ones that really don't want to be there in the first place. Guy brings his girlfriend/wife/friend because they "need to know how to shoot". They pull the trigger once, then sweep the entire line holding the gun as though it were a snake.
