Got an Ontario Ranger

Recommended Posts

After seeing all the pictures over at bladeforums I decided I should get a quarter inch thick knife. So the mailman brought me a Ontario Ranger RD-4 this week. 5160 steel. This is the most heavy duty knife I've owned.

Hey GaryXD, what did that beauty set you back?

would your hand stay firmly on the grip if you had to stab someone in the head?

I've never stabbed anyone in the head but I think it would. You really have to feel this thing to believe it.

Has a good looking shape toward bottom of blade to hold finger or heel of hand in both forward and reverse grips, the jimping would tend to do same, plus micarta scales offer great grip even umm....wet.

Between the blade thickness and the jimping and mini-choil for grip I'd think this would be a great head-stabber.

I know it sounded off the wall, but a fail on a head stabbing would be the deal breaker. I agree from the pic that is looks like is would grip well, even wet.

i like the blade being smooth not serated, I don't figure I need to saw on a head.

If it ever comes down to it, I'm gonna try for neck/throat before the ole headbone.
