What's the deal with Congress and baseball?

I just can't for the life of me figure out why Congress has to get involved with the Baseball steroid issue. If steroid abuse is against the law of the land, then the offenders should be prosecuted as drug abusers. If it's just against Baseball rules, then they should make their rules and enforce them.

Why does Congress feel like they have to get in the middle of it all? Don't they have other, more important things to worry about? Why don't he players just tell the Congressmen to jump in a lake?

I for one am tired of them thinking they are the judicial branch. Seems like they are always forming some sort of investigative committee, putting someone or some group on trial and handing out a punishment. I thought they were just supposed to make laws.

Arrgh!

Maybe they are trying to show how relevant they are. The irony is, it shows exactly the opposite!:D

Now Arlen Specter is wanting to get involved in the Patriots deal!

Approval ratings anyone?

its a waste of taxpayers money on baseball issues like that, it should be left up to the baseball committee, not congress. the congress has so much to do such as improve our economy for starters.

Congress gets involved because baseball has a pass on anti-trust laws. At least I think thats why.

And to add my two cents worth of opinion, I say let them use steroids.

They are grown adults and of age to make decisions. Just like gun laws, I don't need anyone telling me what to do.

It is, but if it's an anti-trust issue shouldn't that fall under the SEC?

Anyway, they have more important issues to deal with than this nonsense. They are obviously incapable of doing the job they were hired to do, so I think WE NEED our money back to find competent replacements.

Nope, they just abstained from voting against another raise....

Congress needs to get out of Baseball, football, any kind of ball for that matter except growing some balls and realizing what they are actually there to do...

Provide for the common defense. Promote the general welfare and leave us the hell alone.

Congress cant even get a straight answer from either of the guys, its a total waste of time, What the guys do is their business, not that I support steroids b/c I'm 100% against it, but give us a break, do it in private or get over it or just kick him off the team is my opinion.

What gets overlooked is that HGH and many other "performance enhancers" weren't banned by MLB when these guys and others took them. Add to that that many of these same "drugs" aren't even illegal. It is a blatant example of the do nothing, look busy, find a process crime, congressional incompetency. The stuff they took wasn't illegal, MLB didn't ban it, so what's the issue?

I know, I know, it's all about the kids!:D

Should they have done it? That's their decision, I for one don't like it. Should it be addressed? Absolutely, but not by the government.

I think Kit Bond said it best:

“Perhaps if Al-Qaeda were actually on steroids, then the House leadership would be more interested in dealing with them."
