John mentioned something that never crossed my mind. He said think twice before you start modding, most S-12s are cut up the day they leave a gun shop. But if this gun makes it on the no import list, in 10 years a unmodified in the original box with tools could fetch some serious coin.

You know... an old mentor of mine told me one time to never buy art as an investment. Buy it because you like it, and if it goes up in value, great.

Same thing seems to apply here.

Seriously though, nice rig. Have fun using it for all of its sporting purposes.

That's where my 2nd problem comes in (I really like it). I will be shooting this gun as often as posible (like all my guns). Will I have fun with a stock firearm, Yes. Will I have more fun with a modded firearm, Of Course. So I am just trying to weight my options. If this was a 10/22 then it would be a no brainer. Also I imagine there will be parts that need replacement (we all know how well communist guns are assembled).

Saigas are, as a rule, high quality. Some of the S12s need some mod to the gas ports, but I would not expect to need spare parts for a very long time.

I have heard good things about most Russian guns. I have had a moded S12 on my list for some time, but I can't bring myself to drop $900 on a shotgun. Maybe a sporter model is not too bad. Let us know how it runs with different loads. Congrats on the new piece.

Nice Saiga and yes, the Rabbi is a real nice guy. As far as converting, I definitely would as long as you plan on deploying it as a self-defense weapon.

I just got Gabe Suarez's "Saiga Shotgun Gunfighting" DVD and highly recommend it.

Good looking Saiga....Hipower I took home that 1201 :-D

Yeah, I know. Congrats. I got to stop spending so much time at Bill's, it's not healthy for me. I told mywife I was trying to sell off guns, but I keep bring in more than goes out. Somewhat your fault as well, I think, Magic.

I seriously love my S12. I got 2 x 12rd mags for it. my first time out i blew through 100rds of bird shot just blasting evil pumpkins all to heck. My son loves it. we couldnt get the smile off his face for a week. I finally got the 6 position stock and pistol grip for it and next is a tri-rail system and a tac light. I figure the next gun show i'll have everything i want and it will be done. enjoy its a whole lot of fun to shoot. Now if i can just find that Skeet range that will let me shoot it i'll be happy..... :D
