I am sitting at my dinning room table and I am watching the very cold snow hit the window and it occurred to me that there are freezing people outside! Some are vets and some people are just down on their luck, but regardless they are human (AMERICAN...well most of them) and they are cold.

Does anyone think that Hunters can do more for the homeless?? I mean we already donate with the Hunters for Hungry, but what if we took it a step further. I purpose that we start stockpiling Hides and start making Blankets out of them. When I went to get my deer processed there was an entire dumpster full of hides going to waste. If we can get enough people to pledge perhaps we can find a place to donate some chemicals and supplies to make this happen. Maybe I'm off my rocker, but I think that we could help make a difference by doing what we love.

Good idea, but most places will throw their hides away unless you want them, then they charge for them. Most hides from commercial proccesors are cut full of holes from being removed from the animal. I used to buy hides, but only about 3 out of about 10 are worth anything.

If we can get enough people (processors and all) to take interest maybe we would get enough to do something with them. Just an Idea I'm throwing out there.

There would be alot of Jeremiah Johnson looking homeless folks running around if this would/could happen.

Very True, but if we were going to do this (and we probably won't) we would have asked companies and Taxidermists to donate the hides and curing material so that they had a tax write-off. Also, if we were serious we would approach a non profit such as Habitat for Humanity or Red Cross or someone along those lines and teach the homeless to do this on their own. I stopped putting thought to this mainly because it was an idea and the logistics and time (which I know I don't have) for a non profit initative probably isn't the best idea. So to make a long story short I did donate blankets and cloths this year for exactly this purpose.
