Ok stupid question. I'm newer to the 1911 world and see all this stuff about NIM parts...how they changed this NIM for that NIM, etc. What is a NIM? I googled it to escape embarrassment but to no avail. Thanks in advance.

Like R11 said, it's MIM. Metal Injection Molding. Basically, instead of a steel part being machined it is created from a mold. There is much discussion of the relative merits of this process and the durability of the results.

It is a manufacturing process that allows manufacturers to cut costs....and not pass those savings along to the consumer.

The quest today is to find a new gun that does not have MIM parts and not have to pay an arm and a leg for it. You can't.

Great thanks guys. I looked both mim and nim up and most other forums said nim. That's why I put nim. Nonetheless, thanks for the input.

Probably because a lot of internet commandos are thinking of Nim's Island. ;)
