COLT WOES

I bought a Colt New Agent last week and finally got to the range with it today. After 15 rounds it broke, The trigger/hammer/safety mechanism refused to operate. My dilemma was:

Send it back to Colt and go thru the mailing, waiting process or take it locally to a good gunsmith. I chose the latter, Currently it's at Lebanon Gun Shop with Ben and he says he thinks he can fix it (Burrs). I'm not angry about it but it just goes to illustrate that no matter what model, caliber, country of origin or brand - weapons manufacturing is not an exact science . . . . yet. :P

Ah....since the 80's Colt's wheelguns have suffered from bad QC. I bought a new 6in.nickel Python in 82. Badly out of time ,right out of the box, I swear ,more lead went out the sides of the forcing cone ,than down the barrel !!! Tough luck, I feel for you !!!

Sorry to hear about your Colt New Agent. I've had one for about 6 months and it is flawless, but mechanical devices can and do fail. I would take it back to where I bought it and have them ship it back to Colt. They will make it right. I think when you get past this initial failure, you will be happy with your weapon. I carry mine most of the time and IWB. It has not been picky about mags or HP ammo. Good luck and keep us posted.

I got a call back from The gunsmith in Lebanon. He fixed it, says a stray piece of metal most likely from the milling process probably broke loose during recoil and jammed the mechanism. Just another great reason to really break in your EDC before betting your life on a new gun right?

I would have sent it back to Colt personally. You would have got a brand new one and possibly some free mags.

Maybe he could send Colt a copy of the repair receipt an a copy of this thread. He and others seem to have a good attitude about the situation which I think Colt would appreciate.

FYI, if the gun had been purchased at the Lebanon Gun Shop the cost for the gunsmith work would have been at no-charge. Since LGS offers to purchasers of their guns lifetime warranty work onsite and/or to act as the customer's proxy with the manufacturer. This onsite service offered by LGS has saved many customers from being without their gun while it would have otherwise been at the manufacturer for the warranty work. COOP

what coop said is true. i bought a new Taurus from them that had problems. they shipped the gun back to taurus and i had a new replacement gun in 2 weeks. if its not right they will make it right with no cost to you. its hard find good service these days. but lebanon gun shop stands behind there guns 100%

The last factory new Colt I bought was a Detective Special that I purchased back in 1998 or 1999. It was so flawed that the gun shop I got it from took one look at the guts, promptly refunded my money, and sent it back to Colt. Since then, we have all referred to it as the "Defective Special." I fired less than 25 rounds through it, and the gun was basically destroyed. The barrel had come loose, the entire internal mechanism had seized due to broken and deformed parts, and there were shards of metal in it. It was a shock to all of us. When the dealer called Colt about the pathetic quality, they were only minimally concerned (according to the guy who called), and the shop pretty much quit selling new Colt products. Very disappointing to say the least.
