Let's ban those evil cars!

Insomnia led me to do some research and in 2004:

Gun homicides: 11,300-11,600 depending on source.

Drunk driving deaths: 16,694

So, you have a better chance of getting killed by a drunk driver than being murdered by a gun.

Just to rule out operator malice:

Total Gun deaths: 29,569

Total Vehicle Mortality: 427,421 (Approx)

There were approximately 250 million guns in possession and about 230 million cars on the road so:

.011% of guns in the US killed anyone

.180% of cars killed someone

So you are about 16 times more likely to be killed by a car than a gun according to these statistics.

And guns are the problem, huh?

There is a little bit of flawed logic here. You should not be looking at the total number of deaths as it relates to guns or vehicles but the total percentages. In 2006 there were roughly 192 million privately owned firearms according to FBI statistics. For the same year there were roughly 300 million passenger cars owned in the US.

The figures are staggering because there are much fewer families that own firearms then vehicles.

These figures also probably do not take in to consideration trucking companies/company vehicles/police force etc. but they do take in to consideration the police shootings.

Duh, it didn't work so well the first time because people still had guns. After guns it's prohibition part II. :)

Amen to that and the future of moonshining with newer and faster cars  if prohibition II ever occurs

Not really, they've already preempted the effort with global warming. Unless you got a car from the 70's or later, it is pretty hard to soup up one of these new "green" cars for moonshining;).

Although I like the idea of seeing a hybrid running alcohol! (Pun intended)

That's what all the windy two lane roads around here, a more nimble car, and a cell phone are for.

Make it equal for all.

1. You can own a car, but you can't drive it in public unless it goes less than 50 and your licensed with appropriate fees. I suggest around 500 bucks.

2. You can own a car that goes over 50 only after being checked out and signed off on by the local sheriff that your able to own and operate your car that can go that fast. If he doesn't like you, you go back to the under 50 car. Your car is also reported to Washington. Fee 2000.00

3. You can own a car that goes over 75 only after full background checks and fees over 5000.00. Your subject to checks at anytime on the highway. Your the first one they come to if they decide to ban cars that go over 75. There is really no need to go over 75 anyway, why would you want to own a car like that?

4. Only soldiers, Po Po and the ATF can own and drive Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborgheni's.:D
