S&W or Colt?

My vote is Smith, not that I don't like Colts, it is just all I have is Smiths and can't do that to them.

I only have S&W's, and plan to continue my collection. I think Colts are probably fantastic, but very expensive - I have never shot one, but have seen somebody else who was very accurate with a python. I would like to get a S&W 14, 27, 28, 66 (3" barrel) and maybe even one of the 8-shot .357 night guards (but it has an internal lock, which I find very annoying). I recall as a boy, my grandfather told me that Smith & Wesson made the best guns, although I don't think he ever owned one. It's amazing how much influence that had on me, and it was 40 years ago. B

I own a S&W 442 which I like a lot for its size. I can't comment on the Colt because I've never handled one.

But it depends on the shooter.

I shot K & L frame Smith & Wesson’s in competition. I owned three 6†Pythons and really wanted to shoot them in competition. But I would out shoot them with the Smiths every time. But it was me; not the gun. I just couldn’t get use to the long azz trigger pull on the pythons.

Both are great lines.

Colts have what is called a stacking trigger in their revolvers.

Smith. Fit,finish, and durability are superior. Quality costs, and lasts far longer than the quick 'glow' enjoyed when one thinks a 'good deal' has been made.

Did you just say that with a straight face? You think the fit, finish and durability is superior to that of Smith?

If you compare the 2 side by side in 70 year old revolvers, which I have both, they are nearly the same in fit and finish and the fact that they still work and work very well is testament to their durability. If you compare more recent or say 80's versions of each, again I have both, the Colt is certainly far better fitted and finished. As I said earlier the number of Smith's allowed to go off the line, due to their being a mass mass produced gun, with overtightened barrels and slanted sights was an embarrassment The Colt of the same period were all hand fitted and hand finished in the custom shop. As for durability, I would say they are equals. All of them continue to run and run well.

I have no personal huge favorite trigger. All of my revolvers have some tweaking done. I have used my S&W more as a hunting sidearm than any of my other pistols. I also really like Ruger revolvers. In fact when it comes to single action guns I am a Ruger guy. For price I guess more will choose the S&W as there are more out there and they can still be had for reasonable money. Personally I don't know a lot of younger people who have ever owned a Colt revolver. When I was growing up most gun enthusiasts I knew had both and preferred one over the other, but liked both. They have different characteristics, but similar positives; well made, reliable, durable and if well maintained will last a few lifetimes. And they hold their values very well.

You need to fix this survey. It is definitely flawed. It's like asking if you like Harleys or Indians.

It's actually a very simple and straight forward question. Do you like the company of Colt or Smith & Wesson best? Also, don't take the question to seriously.

I own both and shoot both, however I have a Diamondback that I have had since 1972 and wish I still had the Python from 1973. SWMBO has the Smith for carry and likes the trigger pull.
