Surefire brand hi-cap AR mags

Just got an e-mail from Brownell's regarding a pre-order for AR mags made by Surefire. They come in a 60 round and 100 round versions, and are a double-stack that tapers to fit the mag well of the AR-15. Very cool. Until I saw the price. The 60 round mag is $129 and the 100 round mag is $179.

Great concept, but $129 for a magazine??? Really??? Not for me, thanks.

I'll take your word on that because I admittedly never looked at any drum mags because I think they would just be too heavy and bulky. Now that I know the price of one, I definitely won't be in the market for one. I'll stick with 3 P-Mags for my money.

I imagine that those 100 round mags would make a rifle very heavy.

SureFire made some promo videos (probably still on their site) and they were targeted to LE / MIL / full-auto shooters. I'm sure some semi-only types will buy them for the cool factor (though how would they fit into the chest rig?).

I saw those in an email ad I received and checked them out.

I have seen ugly before, but those looks like a pig butt tied up with a grape knot to quote a buddy of mine.

for 60 rounds I will just go with a FIREBIRD Pmag coupler or a Redi-Mag setup...

if I (civilian) ever need 100 rounds continuous,.. it would be a bad day indeed... I'll practice my reload skills until I get as smooth as possible...

Yep my vote is a solution for a rare to non-existent problem for me

now if I were to go Class III maybe occasionally using it for fun this would be a wild ride I must admit...

personally i kinda like the look of the 100 rnd drum mags.. but they are very heavy..

i think surefire has a great idea but i dont think these will sell well.. more rounds in a smaller package but they are very expensive for what they are just my .02

My thoughts exactly. If someone were able to really convince me that doubling the round count legitimately increases the cost of a mag by 10X, I might think differently, but I'm not buying it (figuratively and literally).

well im definately not running out to get one but i do have a beta mag and it was probably the worst purchase ive ever made...really the only thing i do with it is take pictures and look at it ha...but i could see these surefire mags being good for law enforcement or millitary use

Jeffsig, that thought has been on my mind from the first. I have a socom and a beowulf. Those two guns would be the only reason I would put out the money. Ture twentys and thirtys are good for semis.

I suspect they are trying to cash in on the hi-cap scare.

It will suck if there is no grandfather clause, if it happens.

However… it was a big cost to build the tooling for that. They may just be trying to get their money back before they are shut down.
