I recently bought a PF9 and have shot it a few times with no malfunctions. My problem is this. I can trade for a Taurus pt145. I really am not trying to start the 9 vs 45 war but is the bigger caliber worth the trade in size and weight. The recoil in the PF9 is pretty sharp but I have no experience with the Taurus. Can someone help with that comparison?

My Taurus pt140 was very inaccurate. And much thicker than the pf-9. Caliber isn't the issue. I would pick the one that you have best shot placement with. I have had a few Taurus' in my day and 0 issues with the lot.

I have had both and still have the PF9. It really depends how you are going to use it. The PF9 is smaller and lighter and more concealable but is snappy with a long trigger pull. The trigger is not bad once you get used to it. The PT145 was one of the best feeling guns in my hand I ever had. It is heavy but I guess most 45's are heavy when loaded. I was never crazy about the trigger but others who shot thought it was fine. Both ran fine and never had any malfunctions. I carried the PT145 in a belt holster and can't imagine carrying it any other way. I don't carry the PF9 often but when I can't carry anything else it works fine in a loose pocket.

The only other thing I can tell you is I have heard bad things about dealing with Taurus customer service but I never had ocasion to try that out. Kel Tec is known to have one of the best customer service in the business. I really can't say anything bad about either gun.

I have a PT145. Now it is no 1911 but I have been pleasantly surprised with this pistol. It is reliable, accurate, and carries well.

I own pt140/145/and a pt111. Like all three, but the 111 has the longest and in my opinion, worst trigger of the three. I owned a PF9 for a short while. Hated the trigger, the recoil and the gun in general. Sold it as soon as I possibly could. I have found the 140 to have the snappiest recoild ot the PT series and the 145 to be as pleasant shooting and as accurate as my Glock 30. Yes the 145 is a little thicker than the PF9, but I didn't find it too awkward or too heavy for my taste. I've had no problems with any Taurus I've owned so I can't comment on the service issue. I fully realize that not everone appreciates or feels the way I do about Taurus, but I've found mine to be very safe and dependable weapons. Also have had several revolvers and still have a model 85 and a Tracker in 44 mag. No issues with them either.

Personally, I'd take the 145 over the Pf9 and be very happy. If you're looking for a smaller Taurus 9mm, check out the 709 series, I haven't owned one, but have heard many good reviews on them.

You are really (almost) comparing apples to oranges here. I have both the PF-9 and the PT145 PRO. The PF-9 is one of my favorite carry guns. So thin and light it just disappears under almost any shirt tail. The PT145 is a great gun but not nearly as easy to conceal. The grip on the PT is much more comfortable to hold than the PF-9. It's also bigger which for a slim guy like me makes all the difference for concealed carry. The butt of the grip is what prints most often for me in IWB or SOB carry. Also, whereas I can fit the PF-9 IWB holster fairly comfortably in my regular waist pants, I always feel like I need one more waist size up to fit the PT. At the range .... no comparison. The PT is much more fun to shoot. IMHO they are (almost) two different animals. The PF-9 is an almost special purpose conceal carry gun that isn't all that fun to take to the range whereas the PT is better shooter that can be conceal carried but is really more suited to OWB carry. That being said, it's still tough to match the 10+1 rounds of .45ACP that the PT offers. As always, YMMV.

I'll echo several others comments... I've had a PT145 for about 7 years and really like it. Fits my hand and my eye really well. While the trigger and accuracy is pretty good, it's certainly not 1911 race gun. It's also a tad heavy but a good belt holster works wonders. You'll be hard pressed to find anything lighter with 11 rds of .45 on tap. Recoil isn't a big deal.... less than a .38 snubby IMO.

One thing to be aware of with the PT145... do not buy one that does not have the accessory rail. Early versions w/o the rail had a weak spot in the frame and were prone to crack with lots of use.

I have a PT145 and like it. It conceals very well. It's probably one of the smallest 45's that you will find and it kicks less than my brothers .40 Glock.

If i had to pick one of the two it would be the pt145.

The PF9 is much easier to carry but pt145 is easier on you to shoot.

Really depends on what else you have in the collection cause the choices fill 2 different holes for me.

I owned a PT145 millenium pro for about 5 years, traded it just recently for a XD(M) in .45 ACP. My suggestion would be to go to an indoor range somewhere that rents and shoot one if you haven't shot one before. I agree with most of the posts above, the weapon felt wonderful in my hand, loved the concealability of the weapon, never had a jam with this pistol. However, I hated the trigger pull, its extremely long and affected my accuracy. Obviously others shoot it just fine but if you research you'll find this is probably the most common complaint.

As an example, If i'm shooting weekly (rarely happens) I can get use to the PT145 and shoot it well, however if I take a month or two break and pick it back up its like starting all over again. With the XD I was shooting the bullseye out of the target the first time I picked it up. (which is also why I'll have another in the compact version soon)

Not advocating you go buy an XD either, just saying shoot the PT145 before you buy it, then you will know if its the pistol for you. Bottomline if you can live with that trigger you will really like that weapon in my opinion.

I'd keep the Kel-Tec personally. I bought 2 Taurasaurasas in my lifetime and I will never ever buy another.

I'd say Taurus makes a better weapon. Apples to apples, the 709 has a better fit and finish than the pf9, and also carries a lifetime warranty. The DA trigger pull is as long as the long dao pf9, the sa trigger reset is very short. Taurus makes a good gun.

FWIW, KT's customer service is second to none based upon my own personal experience. Regardless of whether you're the original owner or not, if you have a problem you can call them and if it is something you can do yourself, extractor, firing pin, recoils springs, etc, they will mail you the parts directly to your home. If you send it in, they'll fix it. I have personally never owned a Taurus, but I've owned several of the little KT pistols and the only minor problems I've experienced were taken care of very quickly. I've always been very pleased by all of my experiences with the KT customer service.

While this alone won't help the OP decide which gun he likes best, or if he should make the trade, it might be worth considering in the event something goes wrong with either of them.
