I would like to get my girl friend to shot my smith and wesson airweight. I was told you could get low recoil rounds they just didn't have any in that day. They said they sale federal low recoil hollow points. Any one know where I could get those?

See if you can find some wadcutter target loads. Very mild.

They also make a very nice holes in the target.

I bought a box from Tri-Cities Gun Depot in Elizabethton. To be honest, I cannot tell that big a difference between the low recoil rounds and standard pressure loads. My wife seems to like them better, but I am wondering if it is psychological: tell her the recoil is less, and she assumes it is?

I shot 50 pretty hot loads thru my 642 last range trip. I will say that it was not a lot of fun. I don't normally do wadcutters but for this gun I might start. For the reloaders the old standard is 148 grain hollow based bullet over 2.7 grains of Alliant(formerly Hercules) Bullseye. Very mild and pleasant load.

THis is the kind of thing that get's a guy started in reloading. I can load a wadcutter to where you can almost see it travel from the barrel to the target. I can also load a hollow base wadcutter backwards, really hot, and have the meanest hollowpoint load you've ever seen.

I have a pin in my hand and shoot what is called a Cowboy Load. It is a very light recoil. I usually can only shoot a box of regular loads before my hand hurts. I shot 4 boxes yesterday and did not hurt my hand at all.

Speer makes plastic bullets and cases for target practice.

All you need are some large pistol primers to fire them, NO powder.

They are fun.

My wife shoots Blue Bunny Ammo's 38 Plinky. I think it a 95 gr reduced recoil load. I looked for a box but can't find it.

It's made right here in Nashville. I buy the 158gr Police load in bulk. Good Stuff. Maybe they can ship some to you.

I'm still looking through the options, everyone seems to be back ordered on the Federal Low recoil rounds. I will probably do some wadcutters, I don't have the time or the space to reload right now. I will definitely be reloading in the future though, but I might have a buddy of mine load me some easy on the hands loads for her. I'm thinking of letting her carry this gun because she really seems to like it and it fits well in her hands. The only thing is finding a round that suits her and will put a bad guy down too. Efficiently!

I agree, if you really want reduced recoil - load it yourself or get someone to load it for you.

I bought some Cowboy load .38 from Georgia Arms. The indoor range @ ORSA will not allow jacked bullets. I don't reload so the only thing I can shoot indoors is a .22. The GA rounds are lead with no jacket so I can at least fire my revolvers @ the indoor range.

I've heard the term "Wadcutter" but never used them. Forgive me for asking but what the difference?

Those Federal Low Recoil loads are not really that low. I bought some for the exact reason you gave, for my wife. What I finally found were, as has been suggested, 1)Wadcutter target loads and 2) Cowboy action loads. These two have the least recoil of any 38 special load I have tried. I also had some success with some Independence Semi-Wadcutters loads, but I won't be buying any more Independence ammo. Some of the rounds in the box were defective. The primers were sticking out and they caused my revolver to jam when fired.

That's different, most indoor ranges I've been to want you to use jacketed bullits. So I shoot until my lead bullits are discovered.

I light load for the ladies. 38spl 110gr. rn with 2.6 gr. bullseye. 150gr. swc with 3. gr. bullseye. 158 gr. swc with 3.5 gr. bullseye.

I must be a "lady", because my favorite load is a 148 gr HBWC behind 2.7 grains of Bullseye.

To resond to the OP, you can buy a lee handloader very inexpensively. It stores in a small box. With it you can make some great ammunition; albeit not very fast. It would definitely be worth a look.
