STI Trojan here too, just got mine a couple days ago ($1,044 with ambi-safety from Shooter's Connection), I've seen 1911's costing 3 times as much that weren't put together as nice.

If you had $1,000.00 which 1911 would you purchase?

I did have a $1000 and I spent it on a Smith & Wesson SW1911 Target. My second choice would be the Kimber Custom TLE II (or something like it in a different finish) that I sold after I bought the S&W.

I just picked up a Sig Tac Ops for right at a grand. I like it, if you are looking for a railed 1911. Comes with 4 mags.

Curious why you say so. What is it about them you like?

I shoot competitively and Trojans seem to be the most trouble-free of the single stacks. Kimber still apparently has QC issues. Also, STI has anything you need for the gun, which can be ordered in various configurations. Try researching front sight options for an SW 1911--the choices are slim. My second choice would probably be a Colt, but availability of front sight options again is an issue. If everyone wold just use a Novak cut!

+1 on that - I found a "like new" used SA TRP for $1100. I'd look for a deal like that on a TRP, they are out there.

BTW - I'm really impressed with the fit/finish of the TRP, it's the nicest HG I've ever owned.

Best,

Thanks. I have shot a couple of them, but am not well versed on their models. I know some are made here and some in the Philippines, or at least the frames and slides are made there. I have heard quite a lot of nice things about them, mainly from competitive shooters like you. But, I have never really had an opportunity to discuss their positive attributes with their owners.

Their budget 1911, the Spartan, has a Phillipine-made frame. Their DA auto, the GP6, is Croatian. Everything else is made in TX.

Get the one that has a pony on it and the letters C-O-L-T. They were the first and make the best for the money.

I wouldn't. I only have 1 1911 and never shot it. Just can't wrap my head around the "cocked and locked" carry. In my work I'd have the safety kocked off and myself glocked on the first day.

The one I got now. It's a Loaded Springer in SS. Got too many other wants to spend a lot on a 1911A1 that's not going to be much better than what I already got.

Dawson has them for $999. The Trojan gets my vote, BTW.

I wish they had mine for $999. Actually, been waiting on it for a month, going to be a little more than stock.
