fanny pack w/holster

Anyone ever use these? I live in the Nashville area. I need to visit Rivergate Mall and Opry Mills on occasion and neither are legally posted, and while they do have their illegal postings, they are not at all entrances. When going to Opry Mills, I enter through Apple Barn or Barnes and Noble. The posting at Outdoor World going into Opry Mills is definitely not legal on their little wooden plaque. When going to Rivergate, I enter through Sears. I get what I need and get out...unless the Mrs. wants to do some shopping..which is only about a few times a year. I am also thinking that their postings are more for insurance purposes. I was thinking a fanny pack would be a good idea when going to these types of places as it would not be as obvious as a holster. I won't have to worry about the shirt possibly rising up..or if I want to tuck it in...or even have to worry about wearing a jacket to cover it up if I would have it in the hip holster. With the fanny pack, as long as I am not doing anything stupid or drawing attention, I think I would be left alone by the so-called security guards at these malls. I want to be able to protect myself and my family, but I don't want anyone to know that I am carrying either, at least in these places. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Here's something similar but different- Looks like a man purse, you can throw it over your shoulder or just carry it in your hand-- good for malls, etc. I use it around Memphis and so far so good. I like it- access isn't as fast as a traditional holster, but it really isn't bad.

Maxpedition.com also has some stuff like that. I have the condor II backpack and the quality is top notch, also have friend with the man purses:p, and they are nice quality. This is the Fatboy versipack

db99wj found what I was looking for. Nothing wrong with a fanny pack, I have used one at times. But over all I like the looks of the one above better.

I have had two fanny pack holsters made by DeSantis and they are really nice quality. I like that the holster inside is actually velcroed (very securely)in place, making it fully adjustable. I have never drawn attention anywhere with these on.

So, if you get the Versipack, do you get black or tan. To me, black would stick out less. Thoughts on blending in?

I would get black, just me, my backpack is black.

For those that want to know, The holster for my backpack and these versipacks are about $9 or $10 bucks, can't remember exactly, but the packs have one side of velcro in the pack then the holster is a strip of velcro with another strip that you make into a circle, your handgun then goes into that, you can adjust the velcro of course to make it tighter if need be. It actually holds your hand gun very secure.

Thanks all...I checked them all out...I think the one I really like is the DeSantis Gun Caddie...kinda looks like a camera case, and it's not too big. I do like the versipack too and may get one of them later on.

Depending on the size of your carry piece:

I often use a standard el cheapo fanny pack from Wall World, ~$7.

I can carry momma's Bersa 380 easily or a G17 (standard 2nd generation).

Full sized gun will not be a quickdraw. But you can carry it and blend into the crowd.

Kinda like "printing", if you know what to look for, it's not hard to spot a CC fanny pack.

I didn't even think of wally world...I carry a SA SD subcompact 9mm...it should fit in one of those...I also have a bersa 380..both fit in the same nylon holster...I just have to adjust the strap depending on which one am carrying.

Nothing wrong with a "Wally World" type pack, that is the type I have used when using one.

The only thing to remember is that some of the packs made for concealed carry will hold the weapon more secure and may have a quick access velcro compartment instead of having to unzip the compartment.

I was thinking I could probably sew some velcro to the inside of the fanny pack on the back side and since I have a nylon holster...fix some velcro to that...putting the gun and holster inside the fanny pack to keep it from moving around too much. I have seen some of the fanny packs for ccw carry and to me that don't really look that much different that the non-carry ones.

tcampbell, in my opinion you are far too worried about carrying into malls such as OpryMills. I go there at least once per week and I carry every single time. I carry in a holster (MTAC) unless it is just blazing hot outside and on those occasions I carry a generic fanny pack worn around my neck/shoulder like a camera bag. That works fine. Either way you don't have to worry much about people in the mall noticing you. Those maxpedition bags are cool and all but I honestly think carrying that thing around is going to make you stick out worse than any other option.

Thanks pws_smokeyjones. Not really too worried though...just don't want to be inconvienenced by security at Rivergate or Opry Mills. I have another friend that carries in Opry Mills and he has never had an issue. I think their postings are more for insurance purposes and if I'm notattracting attention, I think security will leave me alone.

Black it is and yes, I love women and my wife and have my balls and there are occasions, when I travel, that I am toting cigars and other other items so a little more storage would be nice.

ok...I found something at wally world that I picked up tonight. It's called a shoulder/waist pack. It's not as big as a traditional fanny pack...about 1/2 the size. My SA XD 9mm sub compact fits right in there and doesn't move around much at all. I could put it in the holster...but then it is was too tight. There is another compartment to put my wallet...and maybe fit my keys in there too. It was about 7.98 + tax. It's black...and I think hulk hogan would wear this one too.. I'll try and post some pics soon if anyone is interested.

The cheap fanny pack, been my most frequent carry accessory.

Can wear it all year 'round.

I know what you mean. That's why I go 5 months in between haircuts, have boogers hanging out of my nose, wear mismatched shoes, and shorts short enough that my junk accidentally falls out if I bend over. I mean, who cares, right?

There is a difference between caring what someone thinks about you or how you dress and going out unkept and not dressed in attire appropriate for public consumption.
