Obama planning 2nd gun control speech?

Recommended Posts

According to this article in Newsmax, it looks like Obama is planning on giving a separate gun control speech, apart from his State of the Union address.

The article quotes MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews.

Here's the video.

Judge for yourself, whether or not he's got the inside scoop from the Obama administration?

Stock up folks...

Executive Orders don't require Senate majorities...

Chris Matthews looks awfully smug and sure of himself in that video...when relating the info on the separate gun control speech by Obama. He knows something, and I'm sure he's got connections inside the Obama White House that feed him information. I think this was a way of throwing a bone to the MSNBC viewers, who are mostly democrats and progressives. The Obama administration doesn't want the gun control issue to cloud his message on the economy, during his State of the Union address. But there is something cooking in the Obama camp...(probably on the hi-cap mags issue)...you can bet on it!

Here's a link to an article on Dick Cheney's comment regarding banning all hi-cap mags. The MSNBC talking heads specifically referred to this, during the video.

If I say anything else on this subject I may get banned

I just found the limit is 30 :poop: per thread post.

Next we will have a symbolic jester by republicans to repeal it like Obama care, even if they can't get the votes. However I wonder what they will do next term with they get all 3 branches of government if they will repeal anything then.

We'll see. The high cap issue is going to effect a lot of permit holders... something that wasn't a factor when Clinton pulled this crap. I think they have to take a look at it to satisfy all the knee jerk idiots. That doesn't mean they will take action, but it's starting to look pretty scary.

I don't think they will limit themselves to a ban on just handgun mags with a high capacity.

They will go for a ban on ALL magazines over 10 rounds.

And even if they did restrict the ban to just handguns...I'm sure you've heard of the Romanian Draco AK-pistol? It uses full size AK mags/drums. And there is an equivalent type of handgun that uses .223 mags, like the AR-15's use. So either way, there's going to be some :)

True, but executive orders also don't create law from thin air - they only clarify existing laws. It's what the AWB had to go through congress, but executive orders could stop the import of ammo from China, for example.

I haven't looked, but I'm not sure there are any current federal laws that he could hang an executive order on to banish hi-cap mags.

That's not to say that he won't try, or that there isn't some law he could pin it on.

Regardless, diligence is always A Good Thing.

I bet right now the factories that make High capacity mags are offering all the OT a person could work and are turning them out by the semi truck load asap.

If someone owns a factory and is not producing them on mass right now they are an idiot.

If there was one of those factories close to me I would be knocking on their door asking for a job. When not working at my main job, I would be trying to work there too.

Funny, I am able to get 40 a week and sometimes up to 8 OT and I am looking for more. What is wrong with me.

I don't know...George Bush Sr. didn't seem to be clarifying any existing law, when he issued an Executive Order banning all non-sporting Chinese rifles, after Tienanmen Square? That's where we got the Mak-90, and it's ugly 'sporting stock', if I'm not mistaken?

Sure, he was basing it off the import laws associated with firearms, just like the BATFE can stop the import of specific products.

Think about it - do you really think the president can just make up laws without congress?

For the record, i've been a proponent of stocking hi-caps in case something like this came along for some time now and have plenty. I do recommend getting them while you can, because it may not be right now, but at some point they're going to mount another attack on our rights.

Many people on here and elsewhere keep telling me that they won't be able to do anything, but this crap scares me.

I expect this all to turn out bad.

In my studying of EO's, it looks like the answer would likely be a 'no'. They've been abused for a looooong time - FDR relied on an EO to round up US citizens of Japanese and German descent for the camps during WWII.

Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

You mean like back in 1933, when FDR decided to confiscate everyone's gold under EO 6102? "forbidding the Hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold Bullion, and Gold Certificates" by U.S. citizens.

Is that the kind of unilateral presidential restraint you are referring to?

I love it when Chris Matthews says that guns are not an issue in the cities or suburbs but are an issue for people in rural areas. What area did the Supreme Court most recently analyze? Was it that rural area called Chicago????

That tingle down his leg affected his brain.

The prez can do a lot if his EO is allowed to stand,

but they can be challenged and dumped, also.

We just need to watch this closely. Another assault weapons ban, or any part of it is going to take a little time. At the very least, Obama has shown that guns aren't a big thing on his agenda. I'm much more worried about the self serving people in congress.

not a lot of job security when it comes to banning gun related items. There is little traction for this stuff. The media is hyping it because it gives them hits on the internet and viewers on TV. The NRA is just as guilty, hype magazine bans and people will pay money to them. How much does Lapierre make?

I like these threads, but I also hate them. They are good in that they inform everyone on what may be on the horizon. They suck because it makes a lot of people say, "Oh :D. I gotta go buy whatever." Then the price skyrockets.

I dunno, I see this a lot, yet in the 1988 election, the Democratic majority actually picked up two seats in the HoR and kept the same number of seats in the Senate. The 1968 and 1970 elections also saw little change. Aside from the 1994 elections, which had to do with a lot more than the AWB, I wonder where this comes from.

Right now, I'm nervous - I'm betting MOST people are either for it or couldn't care less either way...

That said, I *think* the repubs in the house will keep this from happening, but have little confidence in this.

Might want to read this.

"Executive Orders do not require Congressional approval to take effect but they have the same legal weight as laws passed by Congress."
