Check out RAD Systems: Programs in Tennessee to find out about free RAD (Rape Agression & Defense) training. Franklin Police Department has a class coming in February. It's a 12 hour class that is given on Tuesday and Thursday for two weeks (4 days of 3 hours each). This is a list of all the training sites in TN. Franklin is free, but not sure about other sites. I'm excited my wife is gonna get a little bit of training. Here is a page with more info RAD Systems: What RAD Offers.

I'm all for free training, but getting into a grappling match with your opponent is a poor way to go about things. Especially with the class geared toward women in defense against big scary dudes. **** doesn't work most of the time.

A good mindset, a training class and a gun she will carry on her would be a much more productive route, methinks.

Edit: I like this..

8. What are the requirements to become an instructor?

Any woman with the desire to share this information with other women may become an Instructor. Men who wish to become RAD Instructors must have a law enforcement background or be willing to submit to a background investigation.

It's just another tool in the tool box. If you're grabbed before you can get to your gun, it's best to have SOMETHING in there to handle the situation. It certainly is not the be-all end-all, but every bit helps. Yelling fire is still a good tool though.

Right. I think any training my wife can get to make her think about situations and surroundings is a good thing.

Most women who find themselves in a grappling match with a man probably did not choose to do so. I'm all for carrying a gun, but another skill in the toolbox never hurts.
