Remington Gold

So I recently picked up a box of 525 rounds of Remington Gold .22lr ammo and I was wondering if it would be worth getting more of. Right now all my guns are at the gunsmith for repairs so I can't go test fire any of it so I was wondering if anyone else here had experience with the ammo. One of my friends said he had a lot of misfires like one on 4 failed to fire or something. Has anyone else had this problem?

All the bulk brands seem to come and go quality wise over a given span of time, but Rem Golden Bullet has become my very LAST choice over the last year or so.

Bang bang pfft bang pfft bang bang pfft pfft...

Many misfires. Worse than duds. Just weak fires, you worry if they made it out of the barrel.

I've been relying on Federal 36 gr copper plated and Blazer 40 gr lead head mostly...

My Son and I went through two boxes of Golden bullets last weekend with no issue. I bought them over a year ago. Could be a bad batch.

We used a .22 Ar15, Walther P22, Rossi .22 and a 10/22 with varoius other .22 pistols with no issues. one or two misfires per box.

Maybe I got lucky but I went through 550 rounds with only a few stovepipes. I used them mostly with my Advantage Glock conversion kit and some with a .22 bolt on a RRA AR. For me, they have worked better than any other bulk pack.

Could be a bad batch.

Could have been. It seems that, for a little while there anyway, Remington had some quality control issues on much of their ammo. In addition to the .22lr problems, I had purchased a couple thousand rounds of 9mm and .45ACP Remington UMC FMJ ammo and had many of the rounds loaded very inconsistently. Had some that were obviously loaded very hot while others made me wonder if the bullet had exited the barrel. From what others have said, this has improved, but I've been reloading for the last couple of years so I haven't tried any new batches.

You are dead on about the UMC Remington. I bought a new SR9c and took a 250 count box of UMC to wring it out. I had nothing but problems. I almost sent the pistol back to Ruger I was so pissed off about the performance. I Googled the issue and found a bunch of people were having issues with the UMC/ Ruger combination. I took some federal and two boxes of really good reloads and the pistol performed solid. It does have the hardest slide to rack that I have ever tried.

I had the same experience as OS. Federal makes a better bulk bullet. I had about a 10% stovepipe rate using my Browning .22 camper.

I will not buy Remington bulk .22s. I bought one box and had a bunch of problems in all of my .22s. I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I bought another box. Litterally, one out of every ten was a misfire. I called Remington, and their response was rather disappointing. It really made me think they did not care. From that day, I decided I would buy Federals or Winchester, and between the two brands and probably 3000 rds, I have had one misfire. I hope they have improved, but they are still my last choice.

After bad mouthing the Gold Bullets, I must say though, that I've never had any trouble at all with Thunderbolts.

It all runs in cycles it seems. One may be best this month then next month it goes to hell. Winchester 555's seem to be the best at the moment as far as consistently going bang, followed by Federal bulk ammo. In all the times I have tried Remington bulk I have never been really happy with them because they either don't go bang or are very inconsistent.

If I was buying a lot of rimfire ammo without testing it first I would buy CCI as it seems to be some of the best out there. It is pricier but it is magnitudes better than most bulk too. If I had to buy bulk I would buy Federal Automatch or Winchester 555's.

I've been running the Federal bulk, and they've been shaky lately, but only misfires. Previously, I switched to them because of problems with Rem and Win bulk. No stovepipes to speak of, and it may be my MkIII, as I've had no issues with my CZ rifle. Of course, the firing pin has a lot more mass.

As for the MkIII, that's pretty disappointing, as I had previously thought that the new VQ firing pin would help. Some, maybe, but not too much.
