Good idea to take the ammo. That way, if somebody broke in the car, they couldn't have your loaded gun and be waiting to rob you when you came back out.

If you don't have the cash for a safe' say 'cause you just bought a new Sig Compact Stainless:D do what I do. I use the cable lock that came with my Sig. You lock the slide open, remove the magazine and run loop the cable through both. Then I loop it through the child safety seat hook on the rear seat and lock it. Throw a notebook or a pair of dirty socks:p over it, and no one would notice it. Then take the mags and ammo with you.

I ordered the medium size safe from center-of-mass a few days ago. They shipped it yesterday. Should have it before the weekend. 29.98 + 9 bucks for shipping...that's a couple bucks less than 40 bucks.

I lock mine the way supergus does, but to the front seat frame. Also, I keep the ammo with me.

:D You'll have to let me know how it works! I'm considering getting one but would like your feedback once you get it!

It came yesterday...tried it out...like it. Fits for my SA XD Sub-compact 9mm just fine. I got the medium size one, and they have pics of pistols in them so you will know if you need a medium or large. They shipped on Tuesday, so the turn around on an order seems pretty quick. I ordered it Monday

If I have to lock the pistol in the vehicle, I drop the magazine, clear the chamber, and run a cable lock through the action and around the seat anchor. I also cover the pistol with a magazine or jacket once the lock is engaged. The center of mass safe looks like a nice solution, and I may ultimately go that route.
