I really like that they send out the "letter" now. takes all the stress out of the wait. I got the letter about 8 days after I mailed the renewal. I still have it and the old hard card as souvenirs. Heck I guess the old hard card is still valid too.

Does the letter say it serves as receipt "until new permit arrives" or is it a set time limit mentioned? Seems I've read it used to say "60 days" or something?

So do they change your issue date from when you originally got it to your new issue date? Seems like your losing a few months if you constantly renew real early. If they clip a few months off your original 4 years by issuing your renewal early then you're paying $50.00 now for 3 years 9 months, for instance, if they change your issue date, right?. Doesn't seem fair.

the only time limit mentioned on the letter is to allow 90 days from the date your application was submitted for isssuance of new permit. There is no noted time limit for how long the letter is valid along with the expired hard card.

Great, then I'll probably avoid the DMV, too. I understand it's also posted.
