.410 pistol???

I recently saw an ad for this odd looking pistol called the Taurus Judge. For those not familiar with it, it is a 5 shot revolver with a very long cylinder that shoots .45 ACP and .410 shotshell ammunition. Has anyone shot one of these? Is the recoil manageable? Is this gun capable of delivering the incapacitating blast it appears to (at short distances)? I don't think it's something I need to rush out and buy, but it has definitely peaked my interest.:)

They're pretty cool little guns and I think Towerclimber still has one. They're quite devastating to target stands as Phantom6 can attest. :)

Go to Taurus' website, I think they have a video clip of a guy shooting one out of his open car window at a target.

FYI, The judge shoot .410 shotshells and .45 Colt. I have looked at them a little. It is a pretty interesting gun, however I don't really have a use for it. I think it would be too odd to carry, but would make a great truck gun.

I don't have a taurus. I have a thunder5. the original, made in piney flats Tn.

Taurus came out with the Judge after the thunder5 came out.

Mine is a great pistol. when you shoot. Its definitely a close range weapon and an excellent house pistol/truckgun. The recoil is controllable even rapid fire...simply because its a heavy pistol.. its NOT a carry pistol, but it will blow a hole big enough to throw a cat through at close range!

here's a picture of mine

You know, I had almost forgotten about that. I want to take this opportunity right here and right now to thank you for not letting that happen.:)

While I'm at it let me say that though the lettering on your avitar says something about "Sniper at Work" The picture looks to me like it should be an ad for the Dyslexic's Bill of Rights. You know, it has that part about the "Right to keep and arm bears".:P

Just elaborating on some thoughts thunk while thinkin'.;)

The gun shop/range in Vonore that I frequent alot has 2 of them in the cabinet. Haven't shot it yet but it does look very interesting.. Surprisingly, it isn't very big and bulky like you'd expect. Or maybe that's just because I'm use to my S&W 4506-1.:D

Tower's Thunder 5 is one of the most fun guns I have ever shot. I would love to have one. I doubt there is any gun that would be better for close up protection.

I don't know anything about Phantoms target stands :D

I had a 45 long colt / .410 derringer made by Bond Arms - www.bondarms.com Mine was the "Texas Defender". It was a vey fun gun to shoot though accuracy past about 5 feet (true story) was nonexistant. My only other complaint was occasionally shooting .410 I would get powder burns on my hand. Other than that, it was a good quality, fun gun to shoot and at around the $350 price point not that expensive.

I had a Judge for a while. I got it because it was cool and I didn't have one. I thought it would be fun to play with and maybe use it for deer hunting.

I was disappointed with the accuracy of the 45lc at 50 yards. I was getting about 6" groups. It just wouldn't shoot consistent.

With that being said, the kids and I had a ball shooting 410 shotshells. We would throw cans, clay birds, dirt clods up in the air and blast'em. My son and daughter were 11 and 12 at the time and had no problems handling the recoil. I ended up selling it to fund other purchases.

I have a 410 pistol of my father's. It is a double barrel with an extremely short handle and you can't keep a hold of it when you shoot it. Cool concept but pretty useless without being able to control it. The Taurus looks like a much friendlier version, but from what I've heard of their CS, I would be wary of purchasing one.

Have you ever been to the plant? I'm currently in school in Nashville, but I'm from Elizabethton and didn't know there was gun production in Piney Flats.

My father was trying to buy a Thunder 5 recently and tried calling & emailing the manufacturer with no response. He had heard that they may have moved to Texas. He still wants one so if any of you have good contact info for the Thunder 5 people or who may have a new one in stock, please let me know.
