A Princeton University research team has demonstrated that all sweeteners are not equal when it comes to weight gain: Rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those with access to table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same.

Princeton University - A sweet problem: Princeton researchers find that high-fructose corn syrup prompts considerably more weight gain

I knew I was right about it

If food manufacturers would lay off the HFCS and the ridiculous amounts of sodium put in their products, this country would be much healthier.

Amen to that, fast food being included.

I used to drink a Diet Dew about everyday and kept wondering why I always had a headache. I quit the Dew and drank water only for a month. I lost weight and no more headaches, the artificial sweeteners play a role too in overall health IMO. I've since started adding teas and using Stevia as my sweetener.

My wife is on a gluten free/dairy free lifestyle, made a world of difference in her health.

Don't fear, they've fixed this HFCS problem. Haven't you noticed that it's now corn sugar. Nothing to worry about.

Move along citizens....

Why… do you have rats?

No if I did I would have done the experiment myself.

I have been checking labels lately and staying away from HFCS if at all possible. It's almost like trying to buy American and impossible in some cases, but I try.

I had kind of the same problem with Diet Coke except I seriously thought I was getting MS or Lupus. I quit Diet Coke and felt much better the next day. I still can't resist a fountain one about once a week but... other than that it's water, black coffee or unsweet tea.

Actually some of the diet coke research lead me to find that the HFCS is the bain of all evil as well.

Aspartame can be evil stuff. But it's the cheapest, so most widely used.

Aspartame is horrible stuff.

Staying away from HFCS, Aspartame, and excess sodium is nearly impossible without just cooking fresh meats and veggies. My wife and I have been doing that recently... and it really just tastes better anyway.

We have been doing the same and It does taste better. Can't totally stay away from it but it does make a difference.

I also found on those "rubs" for grilling. The number one ingredient is usually salt. So I just use the seasoning I want directly and avoid cooking with salt which I think makes the meat tough. Also it's way cheaper. I eat the immortal heck out of salt but I don't like grilling with it.
