Tennessee Tech offering First Responder Course (FREE) starting January 31, 2011

First Responder Course | Tennessee Tech University

I am a Tennessee Certified First Responder, and I would highly encourage anyone who can work this into their schedule to take advantage of this opportunity. Even if you don't care to pay the fees or take the National Registry test for certification, the information value of this course is worth your time investment.

Yeah, that is a great oppurtunity. I live in Cookeville and wish to attend, but I am currently attending school @ NSCC Cookeville(police science major) and I unfortunately don't have enough time in my schedule for this as well. Will they offer this course in the summer or is this a one time thing?

Wow, what a great deal. I was looking into the Wilderness First Responder class, until I realized it was aroung $800.

Wish they offered this free one Knoxville.

It should definitely teach some good skills. Well worth the time and you can't beat the price!

Man, I have been wanting to do something like that, I have a co worker that got certified last summer. I wish the class wasn't so far away.

I took my first CPR/first aid/ AED class last summer and have been looking to do more every since.

In addition to basic first aid, the Red Cross have several training opportunities available to their FAST (First Aid Station Team)volunteers. Healthcare provider level CPR and AED use for the professional rescuer, oxygen administration, bloodborne pathogens training and they will provide/pay for your Hep. B series vaccinations. If you volunteer with the DAT(Disaster Action Team) there are many more courses and training opportunities available. There are also a ton of free online courses that are available to all volunteers. Since a commitment of 20 hours a year volunteering is required, I guess the classes are not technically "free" but they won't cost you any money.

Most folks who has been to a UT home game or to the civic coliseum for a show have seen the Red Cross FAST members/stations. Another bright side is that you also get in free to whatever event you are working. I'm really not trying to plug the ARC, just sharing my experiences with everyone. It's worth the few hours for the "free" training, IMO.
