From a Very Good Friend

A friend whos' husband died 3 months ago, gave me all of his guns. She said that she knew how much I like guns, and wanted to do something nice for me. She wanted to give them to me for free, but I finally talked her into taking $800, she wouldn't take anymore than that. Take a look.

She had a colt 1911 and another home defense shotgun, I told her to keep them for protection. I promised to take her to the range and sign her up for some classes at Range Master, here in Memphis.

Thanks, he and I have done a lot of hunting over the years. As a matter of fact he took me on my first hunting trip. I will miss him, and cherish his gun collection. He was sort of a father figure for me. He was 78 when he died, his wife is about 10years younger.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'll tell you that you likely hurt her feelings by making her take money. Sometimes the nicest thing you can do is to graciously accept a gift. I struggle with that myself. Looks like a nice group of guns. I'm sure they'll be special to you. I'm especially attracted to that 375 H&H! The mauser action, like that rifle is built on, is the standard by which all others are judged.

Greg, you a probably right I should have graciously accepted, but knowing her, she will more than likley, use the money to help someone else. That's how she is.

I also like the 375. I don't know what I will use it for, maybe I'll save for a big game hunt in Alaska. I have always wanted too.

That's great that your friend's collection (and memories) get to live along with you, on a daily-basis. I hope that you and his wife are ok, and that you always remember the best parts of your buddy's life and experiences.

Sorry about the way you came about them. I too was given a few guns by my cousin's widow shortly after he died. He was a retired police officer and I grew up next door always asking to shoot his service revolver when I was a young boy. He took me everywhere as a early teen. I am now 46 yrs old he was only 58 after a lifelong battle of health issues he passed away 2 years ago. Shortly after his death his wife brought me his .357 S & W service revolver that he carried as a police officer in the 70's and early 80's before his health problems. I am taken back to times when I was younger and he was not only alive but healthy everytime I take it out of the safe. There were a couple of other guns also but none like the Smith he carried on duty.
