What does it cost to play? How big is the field? Does he have a website for details or is it pretty informal. I'm up for January 22nd or 29th around 8am if it works for the owner.

Took a look at his facebook page. Looks like his games start at noon which is fine with me. Not sure on the number. Once we get a date nailed down I'll post it up in the events. I'm sure we will have less than 30.

Someone will probably take offense to this, but I've avoided traditional airsoft because I have no desire to hammer bad habits into my subconscious. I quit playing army dress-up when I was a kid and the guns I carry these days have the real ability to hurt or get you hurt. Airsoft played for recreation tends to be more about reliving childhood "war stories" than being about teaching you anything worthwhile.

Would it be fun? Sure. Could it be a great team building exercise or just good exercise in general? Sure. For me it's a personal decision. If I'm going to run around with a gun and shoot at things, I'd rather do USPSA, IDPA or take a defensive class. Most Softies probably spend as much on their gear as you'd spend on solid kit for a defensive carbine class anyway.

Now, if someone wants to organize some force on force action where it's geared up toward teaching the individual how to clear their house at night, or how to use cover properly, etc. then that sounds worthwhile. Further, I bet the cost of kitting up for that would be a lot lower too.

YMMV.

TGO David: That's what I was thinking most airsoft was... More of a training tool than anything else. I'd be more interested in realistic scenarios than playing Army.

If it's not your thing that's fine, but some of us enjoy it. Sorry if playing with real looking guns offends anybody, but lots of law enforcement and military use it as a training aide. You would be surprised how much my military background helps in "playing army." David are you saying you don't want us to post a game on TGO for the members that do play?

Im pretty sure he wasn't saying that. It was just his general opinion of Airsoft.

I however feel that I can differentiate between real world self defense scenarios and playing airsoft for fun. I see no reason you cant take defensive classes and play airsoft for fun. I mean after all its just a game

If there is no objection from TGODavid the game is on for Saturday at noon. The field is called DP field and is close to the AG center in Franklin, Pm for directions to the field. This is a real Airsoft field with 20 buildings on two acres. The game will start at noon and is limited to thirty players. You must sign a waiver and use biodegradable bb's. They can be had at Nashville Airsoft or online. A few rentals are available at the field for $20 and includes 1000 bb's. You can also do 1 day rentals at Nashville Airsoft for around the same price.

Here is a video of a recent game at the field: YouTube - M7 @ Franklin 2Bros, 1st Match 1-8-11

Did I say that? I don't believe I did. I'm not even sure how you made the jump to that conclusion. I guess being pelted by plastic BB's has made you a little jumpy. :)

As for the .MIL and LEO use of airsoft, perhaps - but I bet they don't play capture the flag and I bet you don't need to practice squad maneuvers. Like I said, the realism you take from it will depend on the realism you put into it. :)

I hope you guys have fun. It's just not my cup of tea for the aforementioned reasons, and I guess I missed the request that we not use this thread to share opinions. Carry on.

The overall lack of realism is pretty bright and obvious no matter how much effort you put into making it just like real training. Such as the fact that people can hide behind thin sheet metal walls or even bushes for that matter. Most of the people who are really into Airsoft take it wayyyyy to damn seriously for me and that was part of what steers me away from it. That and all the 15 year old chunky munkeys with 2 grands worth of mommy and daddy's money invested into guns and gear that they have absolutly no idea how to do anything productive with.

No such request was made. I guess I misunderstood the post. Anyway airsoft can be whatever you want it to be. You can play foce on force senarios, which I have done in a defensive pistol class or you can get as into it as you want. There are definately some guys out there that seem to be way into it, but others who are fine to put their spare mag in a back pocket and wear a T-shirt. I probably have less than $300 invested in the whole thing, but I try not to take it too serious.

If you have ever been curious or just want to come out and see how the game is played feel free to come out. I have about 18 playing right now and it doesn't get cheaper than free to see what it's all about.

I think a member match near Knoxville would be awesome! I went with an airsoft M15A4 and gas Glock because of their size and weight compared to my real ones. It is handy that they will accept all the bells/whistles that the real ones will as well.

If anyone's interested, can we not make some plans for a similar get together in/around Knoxville?
