For all of the 1911 enthusiasts, is anyone familiar with a Springfield Loaded V-16 Longslide Ported? I have within my clutches the opportunity to add this to my quickly growing obsession. It's brand new in the box. I wanted to hear some thoughts and opinions.

I own one in a non-ported model. I really like it. I have had mine only a few months. I need to put a better front sight on mine due to my eyes.

I have a red fiber optic on the way.

I have the Ultra Compact V-10 model and I enjoy the hell out of that pistol. I would be very interested in a long slide model to add to the collection myself...if my wife didn't keep close tabs on my gun buying, that's why I'm looking for a beater pistol now to add. I say get it and then give me a call and let me shoot the hell out of it with you. Bad thing about ported barrels...shooting at night, won't be doing very much of it with that thing.

Well, so far i love hearing what you guys say about it. Now...the cost...around $900. I didn't think it was too too bad, but i can't seem to get a good fix on a price. It's either that gun or a Smith 1911PD for $700. Whatcha's think?

Oh and the Smith is lightly used and will taken care of. And the Springer is BRAND NEW.

I think you guys are right. I slept on it and I'm picking it up this weekend. I'll post some pics if there's any interest. Seen one seen 'em all?

You got it fellas..IT WILL happen. Meeting the old man no later than Monday. However he did up the price...SUCKS, to a grand, but it comes with both springs an both barrels. .45acp/.45 super

Are you sure it comes with 2 barrels. My Longslide V-16 .45 Super did not come with 2 barrels. It has a bull barrel and interchangeable springs. One spring for .45 acp and one for .45 super.

Actually no...He did mention a ported and non ported barrel. So we'll see soon. I'm itching for it and don't know how much longer i can wait.

Eyeman...worth the money? $1000? (i will use bargaining tactics)

The Springer Longslide, I think, is a beautiful handgun, but to me the gun does not reach the level of my Kimbers. Since it is all stainless, I am comparing it to my Classic Stainless Kimbers and all you have to do is rack the slide on the two to tell the difference. I purchased my V-16 (primarily as a collection piece)a year ago in like new condition for $750, which I considered a bargain. I ended up trading this one for another Kimber, so to me it was a good investment. It's all a matter of what each person wants in handgun. Here is mine;

I think the "longslide" is a novelty gun at best...it's like the "judge"....not a carry weapon, just one to show off, if I were you I'd use that grand for a better 1911.

This coming from a 1911 fanatic that carries one.

I have one set up for hunting and another being set up for bullseye. It's hard to beat a longslide if set up right. They have a purpose for me. i know a lot of people that carry, but only one that carries a 1911 on a daily basis. i carry a 10mm Commander at times. So I guess that makes most 1911's a show or novelty item for most.

I have never fired a ported Longslide so give us a report and post some pictures once to get it.

And you guys are right. This probably won't be one i shoot often, but one i could just keep. Even though i agree that it is more of a novelty, it's also something you don't run across too often. I'm definately not saying that because it is rare, or less common its worth money or could be, but to the right person, it could resell fairly well. I spotted a few Dan Wessons and Kimbers that i tried to buy, but i couldn't get there fast enough. I'll just save up for the next one. I am going to be selling my Kahr PM9 soon, so that will begin the fund towards the next one.
