Just ordered my first AR

Well, after wanting an AR for a while, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one. I debated building vs buying. I still want to and probably will build another, but I decided to just purchase a complete rifle for my first..

So, I ordered this:

ST-15 Mid-Length LE Carbine [sTR5035-MLS] - $809.95 : Spikes Tactical

Mid-length gas system, 1:7 twist. Full specs available at the aforementioned link.

Build + shipping was less than the price listed on Spike's site. Cost + shipping + transfer fee will put me right at $820 OTD. That includes a little extra $$ for some "coloration" work on the logo and such on the lower.

Probably not the best deal out there, but I don't think it is ridiculously expensive.

Although it'll be a few weeks before I have the rifle in hand, I'm impressed with Spike's customer service through the initial ordering process.

Congrats. Also congrats on the next one you will soon be buying. And probably the one after that :2cents:

I won't bother disagreeing there. When I bought my first 1911 I just wanted one. Mysteriously I have two now, and will probably have more.

That's one reason I went with Spikes. Did a lot of searching and reading and, for the most part, Spikes was viewed favorably in the "affordable" category.

I did clarify their warranty. The site states the warranty is lifetime but doesn't specify if that only applies to the original owner. Apparently all Spikes Tactical gear has a lifetime fully transferable warranty.

If their customer service after the sale is as good as it was prior to purchase I think I made a good choice.

Like 6.8 sez, you done good. Now, the biggest challenge is keeping it at $820

Sigh, yes. Already doing some browsing for possible accessories. I really want to take it out 100% as delivered and do some shooting, then decide what to add.

I do like the Magpul MOE hand guard. Inexpensive and allow easy rail mounting points.

As far as optics, EOTech = nice, but that might just wait until my tax return is in the bank.

I love the Eotech. The good thing about the AR platform is that you can get into it for a reasonable price, and have something pretty good from the start. Then doll it up one piece at a time.

You will really like the midlength gas system. My first AR was a middy and I really liked how it shot. It is also easier on the bolt and related parts. Spike's is a great company that stands behind their products.

I like the MOE handguard, but do yourself a favor and consider the Daniel Defense Omega handguard. It's pricey, but will allow you to free float the barrel without any modifications. So, it's an accuracy tweak as well as a handguard upgrade. I just put one on my carbine. Awesome part.

From what I read it seemed that the midlength was the way to go considering it was only 10.00 more than the carbine length.

Now if spikes would only ship faster. 1-4 weeks, more likely toward the 4 end. Reasonable really, but I will have a hard time resisting the urge to stalk my email inbox waiting for a tracking #. Its like waiting for the mail when you're expecting your HCP to show up.

When it comes in I'll probably take the day off work to pick it up and go break it in.

Got the email today. Spike's AR on the way from Apopka, FL.

With any luck it will be waiting on me at Phantom6's shop when I get down there Friday. Not that I'm excited or anything.

Build/shipping time wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be.
