Gun sales in Memphis

I was in Guns and Ammo today and witnessed a classic scene. Apparently a thug had tried to buy a Quality .25 auto firearm and had been denied. I arrived during the part of the transaction where he brought his girlfriend back to purchase the same firearm. They did not understand why this would be a problem. Kudos to G&A for not selling to this dynamic duo.

Wow, they actually attempted a straw purchase at G&A? That is pretty brave. Those guys barely talk to you when you flash the credit card, much less once you have been denied. I don't go in there much any more.

Yea, I wish someone else in the area had a good AR selection. I'd rather not buy from G&A. Hint Hint Classic arms:)

That credit card stuff ticks me off. If I am making a big purchase (over $100) I am not carrying cash. A lot of you might not mind having a 100 bucks on you but I don't care for it. Another big reason is that if there is any problem at all after the purchase you have some recourse. A lot of gun shops charge extra if you want to use your CC or they act put out by taking it. If they don't want to accept it they ought to just remove the signage saying they accept them.

G&A accepts credit cars...the people were denied cause HE failed a background check, and then had is girlfriend attempt to purchase the gun, then G&A denied them both...

I think Brian just meant that G&A has crappy customer service (?).... Which I agree with, they are just not a happy bunch of people....LOL

EM- Range USA has an okay selection and if you know what you want, they can order it for you.

Not trying to take business from Classic Arms - I have bought my share of guns from them.

And Canyn is right. Crappy customer service. Stood in there for an hour drooling over a firearm and didn't get service until I pulled my wallet and credit card out put it away and started to walk out. They were too busy chatting it up with their friends. I tried to stop them several times but was "dismissed."

They will NOT be getting any more of my money if I can help it. I will drive to Southaven if I have to when it is time to purchase the AR.

I don't live in the Memphis area, but it just amazes me that a business would treat potential customers like that. Not the fact they denied some scuzz from purchasing after a denial but they wouldn't be a bit more ammenable to legitimate customers. I'm guessing most folks in here are like me. They love guns and would probably be willing to be repeat customers at a store they like.

It's been my experience in the Nashville area that every store I have been into (and I think I've been to most of 'em here) has been a pretty good experience. I've had one less than thrilling experience (and the guy wasn't horrible he just seemed disinterested) and the norm has been that every place has answered my questions, let me check out a bunch of different firearms and didn't pressure me. Also, with the one exception I mentioned after every purchase (or even if I didn't buy something) all of the people I have dealt with have been really friendly and chatted with me about guns , ammo, and other stuff.

Thats how a place gets my business, and in this day and age of competition and the internet if a place doesn't treat me well I figure they have enough business and don't need mine.

Brighton Arms has a HUGE selection of firearms. I'd bet whatever you may want, they'd probably have it. Call first though cause I could be wrong, and I don't even know what AR's are. But even if you just went to browse, you could do so for a long time. Even when I go intending to just use the range, I end up browsing for a good 1/2 hr to an hour.

Well, I haven't been to Guns & Ammo that much- only 6-7 times, all in 2007. Bought one pistol from them just before Christmas '07. Had to wait a few minutes because someone was ahead of me. Gave them my visa, did the thumb print thing and walked out with my handgun- no hassles, no problems. I'd buy from them again based on my experiences there. Just my experience.

Well, I was in a fluorescent yellow bike jersey and tight black bike shorts-- I was smelly and sweaty having ridden a few miles on my bicycle to get there-- my bike was parked out front-- maybe they just wanted to get me out the door so they wouldn't be embarrassed. They seem a bit homophobic to me, i.e., insecure in their masculinity.

{Hey there big boy, is that a Glock in your (bike) shorts or are you just glad to see me?}

I bought a Glock 26 on sale-- stuck it in my saddlebag and rode home.

You are a brave man, that area, I'm surprised you still had wheels on your bike after parking it out front!

Brighton Arms is the BEST place to buy in Memphis (and shoot too, for that matter) if you want a nice selection and do not mind paying retail. The staff there is friendly and top notch. Their new location is very nice and rivals Knob Creek in KY - rifles, shotguns, AK's, handguns galore.

Classic Arms - very small selection (everything has to be "ordered" and high prices. It is close to me, but I refuse to even go in there anymore because they wanted to charge me $150 for a FFL fee. Reason - I was buying a Colt AR, and he sold Colts (not even the same model mind you).

So because I did not want to pay a 30% markup on his weak inventory, he decided to make his profit by charging an $115 on the xfer. Needless to say, I went somewhere else.
