What? Is that the Kettle I hear again? :dunno:

And for what it's worth, I've only gotten 2 PMs that would be considered "Hate Mail" in the whole time I've been here... Both were from the same person.

Oh, and it's empty now, btw...

... just so you don't think I was only talkin' smack... I cut a couple of blanks for that item we've been discussing.

The pics don't do the wood justice, but I can promise it's some nice-looking Cedar... and it don't get much more locally-grown than my back yard. :D

So, what'a ya think? And keep in mind, I can stain it if need be, to "age" the color some.

Oh, and the rest of y'all are welcome to guess at exactly what I'm up to with the lumber. ;)

What you using the cedar for?

It has been a long time since I did anything with wood but I used to turn bowls as well as make custom pieces of furniture for people. I have tried pretty much every kind of wood imagineable when making bowls.

If you really like the look of red cedar look at finding some box elder. Most people consider it a trash wood but I used it a lot. The red going through it looks like a cross between someone bleeding through it and it being on fire. When we would saw it into lumber it was like Christmas not knowing what you are going to get. It makes cedar look boring in comparison if you get the right cuts. Box elder is also great because it isn't as brittle as cedar after it has been dried. It also take stain very well and tends to be very stabile.

Not my stuff but examples of box elder:

Like I said these are not my pieces I have made but examples of box elder. I keep telling myself I need to make some grips for my 1911 using box elder.

I'm gonna wait a bit before I say what I'm up to with the cedar... I will say that it will be part of a light load-bearing structure. ;)

The boxelder looks interesting though. I'll have pay attention and see if I have any growing around here...

I've got oak, maple, hickory, walnut, cedar, pine, and a couple of locusts here fairly close, but I don't remember seeing any boxelder.... Oh, and I have a crap-load of tulip poplar here too.

The wood I tend to use is the stuff I have here and can cut myself, and that I also know what to expect out of.

That is some beautiful wood there Dolomite, I like the red look but really like the bottom example best, that is sharp!

I would love to have some grips made from that and would even consider buying a gun just so I could have some grips that looked like that.:cop: Right now most of my handguns are of the one piece polymer stuff. The three that I have that will take different grips, one is wearing Rosewood, one has Kingwood and the other one a light oak.

Both my dad and G-dad worked with wood making all sorts of cool stuff. I have never been able to combine having both the means and the time in order to do so.:usa:

J. You go with what you feel is best, I am sure it will be fine as in F.I.N.E. fine.

F**ked-up, Insecure, Neurotic, and Emotional? I hope not. :usa:

Besides, the American Indians and a few other folk assign some pretty specific properties to cedar, other than the physical ones, so if any of it is true, it's perfect for the use I have in mine. :cop:

Cedar Wood:

Associated with the Greek Goddess Persephone during her detainment in the Underworld. Also associated with the Celt Goddess Sezh that watches over the realm of fertility, herbs, and trees. Used by King Solomon, one of the greatest mystics of all time, in the building of the temple in Jerusalem.

Magical Properties: Cedar wands cleanses negative atmospheres. Used for the creation of sacred spaces. Related to longevity, protection, and preservation. Often used to summon helpful spirits during rituals and invocations.

Ought'a be just what the doctor ordered... Especially if I add a little iron and/or copper to the mix.

That's because, for the moment, all it is, is a split piece of cedar. Eventually, I'll show you a pic of what it becomes.

And sooner or later, you'll probably want one too.

Oh, and you can hate my ass all you want, so long as you leave it alone. :)
