I like the Norris range a lot. I wish it was closer to me though and I wish they would add an additional pistol range but it's still nice.

I am a member at Fairfield Glade Sportsman's Club in Crossville (www.ffgsc.com) in Crossville. Have not had alot of time to make it out there but the few times I did I had the place to myself. When the weather is just to hot/cold I go to the indoor range at Outdoor Junction in Cookville.

You turned against it?

Norris early and on a drizzly day.... or when your in the mood to meet some Ole-timers and War vets or a crew of Nuke Power Plant "1st responders"is still my fave within 20 miles. I don't have any friends or family with a 50, 100 and 200 yrd backstop and a pistol range to boot, all covered benches too, with stumps to sit on!Whats not to like..... But then again I am biased at times, a little. Plus My Uncles have blown up everything from TV's to scuba tanks and propane cylinders WAAAAy "back in the day" so it was one of our rights of passage so to speak.

I've been to a few ranges around Knoxville and my favorite is whichever one OhShoot is at.

$20 seems a bit high.

That was my first thought but, they appear to run specials. $10 per hour in Jan. and $10 on Tuesdays.

IF they keep the offers it may be worth it to me. May take advantage of it today and see.

I can shoot some in the wooded area at home. Mostly, I try to stick to .22 rifles and handguns there so as not to make too much noise but I do sometimes shoot 9mm, .38, etc. For centerfire shooting, though, I usually go to my mom's or my sister's (they live next to each other) as they live more 'out in the country' than I do. I like doing that because it means shooting with my nephew and/or my brother in law. I can sometimes get my mom to shoot with us, too. Mostly I stick to handguns, shotguns or my Hi-Point 995 carbine there but sometimes break out the rimfire rifles or even centerfire rifles. In the case of centerfire rifles, that is usually more just for the fun of hearing the 'boom' and feeling the recoil. It is safe to shoot them there but difficult to put targets at any real distances while still having a clear shot on them. When the weather is nicer, I am there nearly every weekend shooting and usually run at least a few through one of my carry guns.

For a more formal, indoor range I go to Farnsworth's. The price to shoot there is $5 per half an hour. It probably isn't the nicest setup around (it is pretty cold in there in the winter) but I like it and it works well for me. Of course, Farnsworth's is my favorite LGS so I like going there, anyway.

If I want to really shoot rifles, I go to the above mentioned Spring Creek range. It is a nice drive and, as it is right there at the Hiwassee river, I have been known to take along my fishing pole, too. I agree that it would be cool if they had ranges out to 200 or 300 yards. Still, when hunting, etc. I am realistically not likely to have a shot at much more than 100 to 150 yards, anyway so the 100 yard range works for me.

Here are a couple of pics of Spring Creek that I took back in January of '09. The target holders can change from one visit to the next, especially since I only get down there once or twice a year. For example, when these pics were taken the 100 yard target holders were the plywood stands you see in the pic but the last time I was there the plywood was gone and they were using the same orange, plastic webbing that they use at the shorter distances:

The pictures of the Gallatin Gun Club look very nice. Too bad membership is closed and no waiting list. :D

The only indoor range I have ever used is the one in Sevierville and the people were nice, friendly and the range was clean, well lit and a good experience for the person I had taken there for an evening of FamFire.

The one in my backyard of course. Concrete benches out to 525 and lots of steel to bang on.

I got up to Gallatin this past Sunday after not having been since August. The place looks even better than those several year old pictures I posted. There is a portajon now, and it looks like a lot of work has been done on the far end of the range. Also the gravel road getting back there has been resurfaced and is smooth as silk. I feel fortunate.
